Pellinor: General Discussion

Hi Yodee and Jaffa -

1. is there such a place as pellinor

Oh yes, there is! :)

2. at the end of the gift, theres about 3 pages with lists of books (I assume there books) by random people some by maerad and cadvan this slightly confused I was wondering are these lists of books? or are any of the books real?

My famous Appendices. You're talking about the footnotes. I have a lot of fun with these... The fictional books are all by people who have initials like mine (A,J or C), or by Bards. There are some real people there too - in The Crow, even some real academics who are kindly permitting me to distort and pillage their very serious essays.

Can the Elidhu be destroyed or turned into mortals?

No. They are eternal, although their states can be changed. That's why they do not understand death at all.

Do we see Arkan again face to face with Maerad?

I'm not telling! :)

When writing do you do a lot of planning on paper or is there a spine of the plot in your head?

Yes, to begin with, I usually have at least an idea of the "shape" of the story (sometimes it's quite a strange shape, like waves or a kind of wedge). I answered a little of this above.

Ha! These questions are really intelligent, I'm finding myself more and more a bit of a wall flower around you guys...

Alison:
*Dunno how to do spoiler tags... so... this will spoil, beware all* Added now, Aras!

I was wondering if you could clear this up for me... towards the end of the Riddle when Maerad discovers her ability to "wolfanize"... I guess, how come she didn't hear her third name? Does she not know it yet, and if so, when will she?

Hi Jaffa - you get to Pellinor by magic...

And, in a funny way, it's based on this world. The best and the worst parts. Somebody pointed out that Pellinor is a name from Morte d'Arthur, so I must have subconsciously pinched it. I read that when I was about 12, so it must have been sitting there waiting for me to use it...

Q: towards the end of the Riddle when Maerad discovers her ability to "wolfanize"... I guess, how come she didn't hear her third name? Does she not know it yet, and if so, when will she?

A: Her third name is, er, something that's coming up...obviously it can't be given her in the same way that Bards are given their names. So there has to be some other process. It's obviously rather important... Don't want to give anything away, guys!!

hey just a couple questions:

Q1:Would you when youve finished writing the rest of the books write a book like The Sillmarillion which tells all the tales of edil-armath(cant spell it!) eg the full story of the age of silence?

and

Q2: What is pellinor magic and how do i use it?

Wow, more questions! Hi Becks, Bridie and Owleye - Whitesilkbreeze was onto something there... :p

Q1:Would you when youve finished writing the rest of the books write a book like The Sillmarillion which tells all the tales of edil-armath(cant spell it!) eg the full story of the age of silence?

I seriously doubt it, unless suddenly there's lots of stuff. You have to remember that Tolkien wrote most of the stuff in The Silmarillion first, long before he wrote TLOTR - beginning in the trenches of WW1. I, on the other hand, just began with The Gift...

Q2: What is pellinor magic and how do i use it?

That's asking... :D I guess Bardic magery is really mind-magic. The potency of imagining. Which is actually much more powerful than people like to admit...

Q3: Is Zelika an important part of the book?

Yes, she's a very important character. I became very fond of her...

q: have you got a drawn picture of the mearad you have invisoned? or of any other characters?

No, not one. I don't imagine them like that (which is why it's so interesting to see all your drawings and imaginings here, and also why I like so much seeing what book designers do...) I am a very bad visual artist.
