Rhapsody

Ive just started reading a book called Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon.
Has anyone read it?
Is she a good writer?
What are her other books?

On the front cover it reads
"The Epic Fantasy for the Third Millennium"
Publishers Weekly

That just sounds really hard to live up to.

I've read the whole series. It's not a bad book, but I wouldn't call it something too exceptional. I liked the chartacters and mostly the plot, especially, in the first book. You should continue on reading, but don't expect a masterpiece of the century.

I enjoyed the first book, and most of the second. Sort of like cotton candy, sweet, but not very filling, and you feel vaguely guilty after finishing.

But there's some truly stupid plotting at the end of the second book, and it just gets worse in the third.

And I never liked the whole 'woman so beautiful that people practically drop dead from sheer joy when they see her, but she's completely unaware and thinks she looks like a freak' thing. Ugh.

I read the series and thought it a bit above average. I thought the 2nd book was the best.

And Haydon tends to make her
heroine a bit too wonderful. A bit grating after awhile.
EXACTLY, and what firecat said.

Though besides that, she did some good world building, I like the way she incorporated the myth and folklore as well. The secondary characters, Achmed and Grunthor, if a bit cliched, were enjoyable.

I've read the first two books.
I think it's a recommendable series so far. There are some good ideas and the concept of this incredible time gaps and time travel was intriguing. The second book was better written then the first imo.
I liked the old dragon lady :-)

Anybody here going to give Haydon's new one, Requiem for the Sun a try? For those not in the know, its a sequel of sorts to the original Rhapsody trilogy

Like I said above, the first three weren't too bad and the world-building was pretty good.

I for one will definitely be giving it a shot. While the previous three weren't the best thing i've read in the last year (be fair, i read Stover, Mieville and Martin in the last 12 months :)), i certainly found them very enjoyable. Achmed in particular had my attention as a character, and i thought the style improved as the books progressed, which bodes well.......
