I was just like all of you. When I read the part that Cadvan "died", I was so sad I almost cried! I was just like all of you. I flipped to the back of the book, and saw Cadvan's name. I felt a little reassured, but then I thought again, was he only appearing in her dream?

I read the Riddle for the first time so long ago now I can't really remember exactly how I reacted but I have a strange feeling I didn't cry because I was so angry that Maerad and Cadvan weren't talking. And it wasn't a 'good riddance to bad rubbish' kinda thing, but I, also has read the appendix of the Gift and saw all those books that Maerad and Cadvan had supposedly written together. So I kinda knew that he would come back somehow. I also thought that it was strange that they had 'died' when Maerad was still hopelessly ignorant of her own powers. I thought that he couldn't possibly die now because she still needs him so much. And I was also feeling very sorry for Maerad, who was all alone in the world now. Actually, I was more concerned that she didn't die herself from frostbite etc. So that kinda sums up how I reacted. Or how I would have reacted, I really can't remember. Oh my memory is already going and I'm not even old yet!

Like writer 7, I also accidentally saw Cadvan's name later on, and it was when he was speaking ... So I knew he wasn't really gone. Which is good, cos otherwise Alison would NOT have been my favourite person!

And is it me, or has this thread been magically joined to another one of no apparent relation?

No; Gemini put it here because it's very similar to the thread that was already here. Fewer threads=easier to find the thread you're looking for.

ahh but melding threads = harder to find the one you're looking for because its not under the same name as before!
a-hah! work that out!

How about this: Maerad and Cadvan get together. Cadvan dies in a heroic battle against Sharma and gives his last strength and power to Maerad, who uses it to defeat Sharma. Sharma dies (duh!). Maerad mourns Cadvan's death. Maerad discovers that she is pregnant with CADVAN'S BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

How about that, huh?

Still don't know about Hem though ... Saliman might die, I agree with you there.

this sounds a lot like what happened at the end of another book. and it would be totally sad if that happened although i do agree that it is a possibility ( a very sad possibility ):(
