No, it wasn't dumb, i was just agreeing with you. I'm sure i've said that kind of thing a couple of times myself, and i'm still pretty new here. I joined somtime in the middle of the summer.

its okay as a film in its own right, but as an adaptation of the book, its awful...they miss out Tierm iirc, i havent seen it in a while, but Angela is in the city that gets attacked by Urgals, which they arive at before the attack....if that makes sense

hehe

Don't know my mum by any chance, to you??!!

I've written a faithful adaptation of the first chapter of the Gift. Please tell me what you think - you'll probably have to have the book next to you though, cuz I couldn't be bothered to write the dialogue etc.

Beginning; could start like The Sound Of Music, by looking at the surroundings. Pan over the forests and mountains, zooming in over distant Gilman’s Cot. Fades to cut closer. Show the wild dogs etc. Credits throughout. Song could be the “Speak to me fair maid” thing. Early morning. Show the slaves going about their business; not many of them. Take in barred gates and armed guards with dogs. Go through muddy streets and end on Maerad, who is playing the song - Speak. Maerad leaves her quarters. Follow Maerad. Watch her washing from the front and see Lothar come behind her. They speak.

Cut to Maerad in the cowbyre. She is milking. Flashback to riot. See Maerad raise her head and look around, then see a stranger in the doorway. They speak.

Cut to Maerad at her tasks. Maerad “curses” one or two people. Flashbacks of memory. Shadows/faded views of her mother doing the things Maerad describes.

Cut to Maerad, evening. In quarters, fetching lyre. As she walks to cowbyre, Mirlad’s voice saying, "I've taught you everything I know about music. Anything else would be a waste here. You can play in the evenings, anyway." Cadvan and Maerad speak. As it is in the book, until; show her face, walking out of shot just to the right, focus on mountain, then fade to black.

What do you think, then?
