Maerad's Thread (Spoilers for The Riddle)

Whitesilkbreeze is onto something, I think...Also, remember that the thing that Bards most often distrust about Maerad is her Elidhu heritage and magery...too wild and uncontrollable. And outside Bardic ideas of good and evil. And also - Maerad hasn't dealt yet with the implications of her murder of the Bard in Lirhan - she is going to have to face what that means at some stage...

Ohhh, i had forgotten that the implications are rather frightening, is ostrasism in the cards, seeing as Cadvan almost was for *almost* killing someone..... and releasing a dark spirit into the world.... hmmmm

lol, when i saw this thread, i found the thought of an "evil mearad" funny :D
*darth vader breath* 'Come to the dark side Maerad!' lol...

I agree whitesilkbreeze There will be a whole theme of Maerad learning to control her powers and her 'fierce joy' when she uses them yadda yadda yadda... wait was it Spiderman? "With great power comes great responsibility"? :D

yes it was spider man hmmm but cadvan has been through going evil and so since he has been through he could help her stop it more than anyone else

:D

I'm a bit dubious if Cadvan can stop Maerad. A person can tell someone else over and over again that what they are doing is wrong/insane/sadistic/any appropriate adjective, but that someone else won't listen unless they want to. Even if they listen they may not understand unless you can strike a nerve with them.

Random - but I wonder if Hem dying would be the catalyst to Maerad coming to terms with killing a Bard ... I wouldn't like that and Hem is still important in some other way. Maybe if he finds out he'll recoil from her or something. Whatever happens she will cope, eventually, otherwise there is no justice in this world.

Maerad could accidently murder Hem/Cai after turning evil? When Nelac says Hem is as important to the light as Maerad maybe he means that Hem will have to sacrifice himself to jolt Maerad back to the  good side. Maybe the reason for Maerad turning evil  could be that Sharma is possesing her somehow. After all her foredream says that he lives in every human heart and Ardina tells her that her greatest peril exists already within herself...

I think it will be

needing to resist using her immense power for destructive purposes or for seeing 'just how much she can do'. She has a 'fierce joy' when she feels the extent of her power and it's easy to be greedy for more and more power.

This is exactly what I've been thinking... she'll probably wage some 'inner war' with herself and come out "hopefully" victorious - or it will seem like everything they went through was pointless.

... I had this horrible suspicion that either Cadvan or Maerad will die for the cause...

hmmmmmm..... shell see someone she loves, eg hem, will die by the dark and that would stop her going evil because of what they have done

I don't think Hem will die. Not before completing some sort of important task for their cause ... well, I hope not.

Question for Alison: Will Hem ever accept his real name, Cai? Or is that part of accepting himself and what he is and the past ... ?
