I was just thinking that Maerad will probably always feel that sense of joy when she uses her power simply because she feels there is no limit to what she can do.....
I wonder if she may be able to control the urge for more power by love, in some shape or form(cadvan/hem)

yeah i also think it is quite likely that Maerad will always feel some sort of joy for her power(well wouldnt you) but it may diminish over time. I am currently reading the Gift (again) and in rachida Ardina says to Maerad that 'Only this is clear: you have a great heart, but will only find it to be so through great pain.' Maeard may need her love to overcome a possible desire for power. I don't know about this just guessing really ;)

Hi all, didn't know were to stick this idea so thought it should probably go here...
Anyway, has anyone noticed that most really good fantasy(ish) books involve the main character being an orphan (or other lack of parents). For example: The Pellinor books, Harry Potter, LOTR (frodo's parents drowned when he was young), Narnia (most of the children have been evacuated or sent to boarding school- as far as i remember). Why do you think this is? I wonder if it simply because it gives the character a lot more freedom without their parents bugging them as well as giving them a much larger range and depth of easy to understand, expressable emotions. Make sense?
