I remember a story . . .

but of course I can't remember the title or author. It probably goes back at least 30 years. Probably would be considered a children's or young adult story.
Anyway it went something like this:
A young human boy from another world stumbles through a 'door" and ends up in a cave in our world. He makes his way through the woods to a farm, where the family takes him in. It seems like he had a gift for getting along with animals, and he could "make his feet light" to jump over things. Probably some telepathy to help learn the language.
Eventually his father finds the door and tracks him down. It seems like either the farm family went back with them, or some sort of regular connection was established.

Does anyone have a clue as to title or author?

It's The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key. Wonderful book. And it has recently been republished in paperback, so it's pretty easy to find either new or used. :)
