Yikes! animated epics are a no-go in my book. At least with real people you'd have a chance of making emotion seem genuine. The closest thing that animation got to making me feel some sort emotion was Gollum, but I can't imagine a whole cast being constructed that way. Wouldn't it also take ages and heaps and heaps of $? I remember the director of the new harry potter movie saying they had to cut out stuff because it cost so much to do animated characters/shots.
I suppose if I was not a fan of the books I wouldn't mind so much...

Do not lose faith in the animators!!! They're lurking around somewhere...

I for one have a STRONG belief that animation has alot of potential, so I think that it would be okay if some one made an animated movie. The thing is with animes, their put into episodes, right? I thought that was how it was... Anyway, heres what I think:

1. Animated would be fiiiine, because what if the actors accidentally sucked? Then again, there is alot more chance of the animation sucking... :D but if anyone would make an animated movie, they would have to totally prove their abilities in an ANIMATING DEATHMATCH OF DOOOOM!!!! No really, I mean it. But don't worry, someone will come along and you'll see... ;)

2. Anime would also be fine, even though I didn't vote for it. I have quite a clear picture of Maerad in my head as an anime character, also Arkan and Cadvan and Hem. But I think some of the underlying seriousness would be lost in the constant googly eyes and smashing on your face and chibifests. Not to say I wouldn't mind seeing this :D. I kind of see it in the style of FLCL
(probably you don't know what that is so Google it and find out)

3. I actually think a live action movie would be okay, the thing is, I want to be an animator as a career :( so I kind of have to root for them, okay? :p

Oh, and I have a new idea to bring to the table... anyone forget about the animated movie god... Miyazaki?!??!!! I think he would be great for animating the Naming/Gift, don't you think? Theoretically that is (how on earth would he find the book all the way over to Japan, and what would my means of persuasive torture be? :D ;)) but he just made Howls Moving Castle, that was based on an American author, why not Australian? :p

Diana Wynne Jones(author of Howls Moving Castle) is English, isn't she???

If the movies were going to be anime Miyazaki would have to be the one to do them. I love all the Miyazaki movies i,ve seen!

Yes she is English- I think the book is better than the film though- the film is good.:D

I am an ignorant dolt :o well, even if she is English, same point. The movie would be very good if he made it, I can just see that Miyazaki Kulag...:D
