Which is, if anyone's interested, and if it isn't against list etiquette - would anyone like to take a look at a chapter of my book, The Gift, which I've posted at http://www.users.bigpond.com/acroggon/chap.html It's the opening chapter; I thought of excerpting later stuff, because it changes with the story, but it all requires too much explanation. It's coming out next year with Penguin, and so I've obviously shown it to a few people, but I'm very curious to know what hard core fantasy fans think. Positive _or_ negative comments are of course welcome, I'm a big girl.

Okay, now that the link is working okay, I really have to move this topic into the Writing section - we have to be consistent! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Liked the shocked face, I haven't worked out how to do that! Still in the midst of editing the whole thing, which maybe is my favourite part of writing (anyone else amazed by the way blank pages sit in front of you and mysteriously fill up with unexpected things?) but I'm very encouraged you liked it.

I didn't scroll down enough to find the writing section here - so I'll have a look around.

Welcome to the writing section, Alison. It's always nice to meet fellow aussie authors here! (Though I'm only an amateur compared to your list of credits and achievements! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif ) I haven't had the time to read your extract yet, though I have had a quick glance whilst checking that the link was working, and it does appear to be very impressive!

Cheers,

Neil

Well posting in the other forum worked for me because I don't normally check out the "Writing" topics. However, as I'm a fellow Aussie and as I like to check out new authors, I had a look.

And now you have me waiting on the edge of my seat to find out what happens. I thought it was great and can't wait to read the rest.

Hello. I don't concider myself hard core fantasy, but I've read a part of your chapters anyway. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

I rather like your style. Very nice balance between narration and dialogue. I particularly enjoyed the interaction between Cadvan and Maerad as well as the italiced beginning.

Thanks, guys - I can't say how encouraged you all make me feel. I felt rather shy about posting this... There's always more to do, but I have to say these opening chapters have required more rewriting than most, it's very tricky introducing a world, isn't it? I'm about to plunge in this week and edit the last quarter of the book (if this cold will let me) -

Good descriptive flow, the two paragraph intro reminded me of Tolkien's work.Brought a tear to my eye.....well, almost.
Hang around long enough and you will see I'm quite a joker, but really what little I have read so far is quite good.
Which brings me to what I want to ask you.
A few of us have started a babillion story on the writing page called Lost Breed story no. 2 We are looking for people like yourself to post to our story.Only three or four of us are posting and we could use some fresh ideas. We would be happy to have you aboard. Please don't make me beg......Ok ,so I'm begging you ...What do you think?

How do you get to the Babillon story? I'll have a hunt around... I should say I need something else to do like a hole in the head http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif but like all writers I am a very talented procrastinator...
