Interesting what one can do. I didn't know this was an untested theory.

And it appears that it will, unfortunately, remain untested for the moment: Booster failed 83 seconds into flight (http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/ap_solarsail_fail_050622.html).
I can't tell you how much this makes me sad. It was a great idea, and I had really hoped that they could test it out and see how it would work. I hoped that it would be a nice little step towards eventually getting out of this solar system. Now for completely unrelated reasons, it's failed. The article lists a couple of other attempts that have also failed. Grrrr..... I just wish this futuristic stuff would get here faster! But the road forward is usually a bumpy one. I guess we just have to have patience. :( :( :(
