Your books in USA?

Hi Caitlin,

Any word on whether or not your books will be available in the United States?

Thanks

Rob

Sadly, Rob, there's no sign of any US (or UK) publishing deal on the horizon for me. This is endlessly frustrating and a bit scary (as I really do think I'll need an international deal in order to stay in print at all) - but that's it for now. Penguin Canada's still working on it, and my agent is confident that he'll be able to sell the next one/s internationally, which would likely mean the retroactive selling of my current two...my fingers are certainly crossed. I guess I'll just concentrate on writing the next one!

So I'll just have to keep telling people that amazon.ca is the fastest, easiest way to get my books, and hope they'll take that long-distance ordering plunge.

You know Caitlin, I never ever received mine. I ordered them months ago. Is there no way to order direct from your publisher?

Do you have an agent in NY?

I will log on today to amazonca and re-order the first book.

Oh man, what a pain! I'm sorry you've had to go through so much to get my first book, Gary.

No, there's no way of ordering directly from Penguin. I'm about to investigate whether I could buy a box of trade paperback first editions from them so that I could sell them myself - but I'm not certain this'll happen.

Yes, I do have a NY agent. He plans on getting me into the US as soon as I've written the first few chapters of my next book. (Penguin has world rights to my second book, so my agent isn't technically in on the selling process at the moment.)

My advice to my would-be US readers remains: don't order from amazon.com. Go directly to amazon.ca: the books'll arrive within days.

And mark my words: whenever I have tidings of international sales, there'll be a new, all-caps thread here!

I normally despise Borders, but I stopped in one today because I was bored....and what do I see?

A Telling of Stars right there in the Fantasy and Science Fiction section. I put a one-day stop to my self imposed ban of Borders to buy the book since I've been wanting to read it. I do have to say, Borders occaisionally does have some good small press and imported books.

I'll let you know what I think when I get to it, but it is really a lovely looking book, design-wise. Like Scott's book, it is one of those cool paperbacks-with-flaps and-deckled-edges. I shouldn't be surprised since you guys share the same Canadian publisher.

Well, well! While I completely understand (and to a great extent share) your loathing for the big-box, corporate bookselling giant, I'm totally thrilled that Telling was there! For you! And that you eschewed your principles (on a purely temporary basis) to buy it. Fantastic.

Yes, Penguin Canada puts out a fine-looking trade paperback. My second book ended up without flaps or the apparently controversial deckled edges, but is still a classy volume. If I do say so myself!

Enjoy, Rob, whenever you manage to get to it! (I haven't used this many exclamation points in a long, long time.)
