My library in town is not really that good, on second thoughts it is bad as it doesn't actually have The Gift or The Riddle!! But my school library is very good, especially as the librarian is a very nice person and buys books that I recommend/ask for!! Lol! :D And now that I'm library prefect I will have more chance to find some good books to stock up on!!!lol!

:D lol! I generally manage to control my squeals but a huge smile does tend to stick itself on my face while I delve into the book!!!:D

hey there everyone...... mmmmmmmm chocolate,

Here follows the drama of how I first came to read The Gift... :)

SCENE 1
EXT. MY FOLK’S HOUSE, WA, CHRISTMAS DAY 2005

I roll up to my parent’s house for the family do. I park my car, and gather up all the pressies. I promptly drop 4 or 5 items. I say a few rude words and awkwardly manage to get all the parcels and myself to the front door. I kick the door because my hands are full, and plaster on my best “merry x-mas” grin. The door opens…

MUM: Good morning, merry Christmas, etc etc… (hug hug, slobber slobber as mum’s do)

DAD: Hope you bought me that beer kit I wanted! (and as an afterthought) Good to see you son.

SAM: Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! You’re here, you’re here! Look at my book! I want you to read it! It’s the best! Read it now!

Sam, my youngest brother (12) comes tearing down the hall holding out this book (yup you guessed it – the gift). He does the old leap-into-your-brother’s-arms move, except he hasn’t noticed that I have no hands free!

KA-SMASH! BOOM! CRASH! “WAAAAAAAA!” There is general chaos and confusion and of course it’s all my fault for not being superman.

Mum fixes all. Sam stops jabbering long enough to open his present. I take the opportunity to slob about in my favourite chair.

SCENE 2 – LATER THAT DAY
Sam finally goes to sleep when I promise to read the “stupid kiddie book”. I intend to skim the first and last chapters… but something goes wrong! Yup that’s right you guessed it – I got hooked!

So I hope no-one got too bored with that true-life drama! :D
I think it's a mark of how well written these books are, that a 12 year old and a 25 year old both find them appealing. I'm sure Sam and I took away different things from the book, but we still have really interesting conversations about the general themes. It's certainly put me back in Mum's good books... at least for now!
