Cyberpunk is always good for a good mind bend.
The Space Opera, if done well i.e. three dimensional characters, twists and intrigue, can be as fun as epic fantasy.
Robots are okay.
I always like a good alien contact/invasion especially written by Sarah Zettel, C.S. Friedman and C. J. Cherryh.

Don't forget the 'Big Dumb Object' category, otherwise known as the mysterious artefact. ;)
I personally find it hard to group novels by subject matter in the same way as other things like music or film. Books are just far too complex for that, and most SF has elements of more than one 'sub-genre' per book.

Distopias are a major group that aren't covered by your list. Many of my faves are in this category:
1984, Brave New World, Handmaid's Tale, The Space Merchants, The Dispossessed, A Scanner Darkly, Parable of the Sower, Stand on Zanzibar.

Quantum physics books are fun sometimes, though I really didn't like Einstein's Bridge.
Parodies are fun, too. Doon and HHGTTG!

Robots: The Robots of Dawn/Asimov
Aliens: Chanur Series/Cherryh Uplift Universe/Brin Footfall and The Mote in God's Eye/Niven and Pournelle
Alternate History: Not big on this category
Space Travel: Starfire (can't remember the author) A book containing short stories about Solar Sailing (multiple authors to raise funds to build the first Solar Sail possibly the Solar Sail Project)
Apocalytic World: Don't know if this fits here, but Summertide by Charles Sheffield
Cyberfunk: Another category I am not big on
Time travel: Pern Books by Anne McCaffrey she use time travel in several of these books and it does not seem overused. Counterpoint: the overuse of time travel in the Star Trek universe. No wonder it imploded.
