okay. number of reasons.

1)They really take me away. Make me feel like i'm not in the world anymore.
2)The imagery - wow. it's so vivid.
3)Her characters. They're so amazing, and not typical.
4)They smell nice.
5)They're a perfect size.

i like best how interesting and complex the charchters are i think thats what was wrong with harry potter the charchters were either bad or good they liked this person or they hated this person but with AC her charachters have depth and they seem like your friend because the more you read about them the more you learn about them and they always stay in character and dont stray of the path for the sake of worthless drama

thats my opinion:)

I like them because, well, because of the characters. I mean, I love her writing style, and the ways the books seem to flow and capture me completly, but ultimately I love books because of the characters. The characters of Pellinor are complicated and have such intense personalities that they have to be real, and that realness and likeableness of the characters is in my opinion the best part of the books.

Not always - Snape, for example...But that's irrelevent.

I guess why I love them so much is the writing style. It flows so well, and is unbearably touching without being soppy, flowery but not pretentious. Without such a good writing, it would merely be a really, really excellent but somewhat cliched series of fantasy books.
And there are other things I love too - the way M&C's relationship develops so subtlely, the unexpected flashes of humour, the deep, complex and likeable characters.

(Yeah, I'm a bit obsessed...)

I agree completly with Sirkana and BMTE. The characters are not flat - take Cadvan for instance. He got his friend killed by studying the dark arts, and now most bards don't trust him. He could have been a hull, and I think he actually might have had he contiued his studies of the dark. But when Cerdin died, he realized he couldn't. So it took the death of the person who was probably closest to him to turn him completely back to the good side.
What I am trying to say is that there are shades of grey in all the characters. There is the potential for evil in all of them, and it is only by concious choice that they are able to resist it, or embrace it.

Exactly - they're more like real people than those in other books.

I agree sooooooooooooooooo much with you all. The plot, the characters, the imagery, the way she writes. HOWEVER, atm I am rather annoyed because I am re-reading the Gift for the 100th time and going on this website instead of doing the "noble" thing and revising.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH way do the books have to be so catching!!!!!!
