very very true... of course i kinda think of enkir easier to compare with lucious malfoy who does have depth
and then sharma is still kinda your traditional evil dude

i think i alos like how she paints the landscapes and environs so cleanly and vividly i can really see them. and also i like how they are BELIEVABLE. its different to other fantasy or sci fi because i understand the characters i can "connect". but i dont like the books when the characters are so inhuman that i dont understand them and therefore have no empathy, for without empathy or sense of belief in a character there is no escape. and escape is what most readers want when they read fantasy or sci fi. a world which is so different to our own that ITS problems seem more imprtant than ours and therefore we do not stress (as mcuh).
anyway that is what i think

i mostly agree with what you are saying. voldemort has like no depth at all and stuff. but i think even sharma has a story. arkan was in love with him, afterall. or, at least, thats what we assume.;)
these characters are so much more belivable- cadvan and maerad got into a fight. instead of letting cadvan be the "heroic noble person" or maerad being the "docile sweet herione" they did not resolve until after they met again.
also-zelika was filled with revenge, and it never ebbed away. it was her greates fault. hem hid from the truth, didn't he say somewhere that "deep down he knew she was gone" ? or some such thing. even saliman has faults.
this turned into a long post:D

yah i agree i love what she did with zelika and she wasnt afraid to let main characters die which is a nice change
though really most books have arguments between main characters its not a complete new thing

I love Alison's Pellinor books because of their originality and depth. They're thick, juicy, and I love how deep she gets into the characters. Instead of just sticking to one plot, like most books do, she spreads out into branches into these little sub-plots and themes.
Also there is Cadvan. The fact that there is a dominant and appealing male figure attracts many fans to the book.
In The Riddle I skimmed the book to see if he really had died . I don't think I would have enjoyed the rest of the series without him.
I did the same thing.. Anyway I like the entire set because it keeps me guessing on Cad and Maerad, I am always curious before and after the books.. Its nice to find something to daydream about, while in class.. haha.. It is also very Tolkien-ish (length and history of the characters) :D

i hate it when you show your friend a book or movie that you say is really really good and then they start bugging you becoz they wanna know who dies or not. and its especially horrible when you give in becoz u just feel sooooo uber guilty :(
