Does Eye of the World Start off Slow?????

I have tried to read through some of the other threads that I thought may have answered this question, but could not find one. So, I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed.

Anyway, I started Eye of the World about a year and a half ago. I read the first 400 pages and put it down in frustration. I felt like the story was moving extrememly slow and often found myself wondering what the past pages were about as the book was not holding my attention.

I picked it up again after reading what everyone's top 5/10 fantasy books are. WOT was on just about everyone's list, so I figured I would give it another shot. After reading another 60-70 pages I am still running into some of the same problems, though the book is holding my attention a little more.

So, after all of that, here is my question.....Does this story start off slow, or is it just me?

EoTW is very slow, nothing happens at all until page 80. When I first read it over a year ago I stopped on page 400ish for about a month. Nothing else seemed to happen until the last 100 or so pages. The series just gets more sluggish, I'm afraid, except for big finale at the end of each book.

It's even more difficult to read if you've read other, better authors.

I do not recommend this series.

Thanks for the reply. I definitley do not want to spend any more time waiting for this book to get better.

Well, even though it's been discussed before, I'll make a recommendation for George R. R. Martin's series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Largely considered one of, if not the best series out there right now, and even the first book is great. If you're looking for an excellent, epic series, you can't go wrong.

I have actually seen that recommended before. I may give that a shot. I am looking for something new.

The only two authors I have read are Tolkein (over and over and over) and Feist, who I also enjoyed.

Yep, go with Martin. Plenty of good stuff happens there.

What is the first book in the series?

A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
1. A Game of Thrones
2. A Clash of Kings
3. A Storm of Swords

I feel a little guilty, relentlessly recommending this series above all others, but it's honestly probably the most entertaining one you'll find (besides Lord of the Rings of course).

Just so you know, I've read: Tolkien, Feist, Hobb, Eddings, Martin, Goodkind, Erikson, some Kay, Donaldson, Williams.... and of them all, I'd first recommend Martin!

In answer to the original question. Not really. I'm suprised that if you enjoyed Tolkien and Feist you haven't been able to get into it though. Guess it's not for you.

Now i'll get out of this martin love fest.

LOL. I guess it's true.
