well I'm getting red/purple streaks in the summer hols..but I don't think that that would boost my chances much...

(still have no idea how I managed to get it past my mum..all thanks to a Meat Loaf tribute concert...-Meat Loaf rule!-lol):D

But you cannot deny looks aren't part of everything. Imagine if someone could portray Maerad perfectly but they made her blonde. That wouldnt bother you?

ah...but I don't think they would leave the girl's hair blonde if it was supposed to be black. Yes, if it did happen, that would bug me, but I'd prefer a blonde to a complete ding-dong actress.

I disagree about Thora Birch's weight. She looks fine to me, of course she doesn't look like the type that has been starved for nine years, but I think she's quite beautiful. "Slender" doesn't necessarilly mean twiggy as a tree, know what I mean? Plus curves are very attractive. These days, the media has influenced us to believe that you have to be stick thin in order to be attractive, which I think is very sad.

how many of you actually liked or for that matter seen american beauty?

Cause personally i found that movie disturbing on so many levels.

thora is not at all like how i picture maerad espeacially the breast thing.( if you havent seen the movie look closely at the picture.)

there is nothing wrong with being Curvy

its just maerad is supposed to be small

I've seen American Beauty at least 10 times.
it's one of my favourite films.
it says so much and the fact it isn't your archetypal american film :D
Brilliant.

I have to say, even after my little speech, that Maerad does need to look a bit more starved...unless Thora Birch wants to lose dangerous amounts of weight (again, not saying she's fat, but that Maerad is a stick from not receiving enough food for more than half of her life). Now that I think of it, anyone would need to lose dangerous amounts of wieght to really look like Maerad does in parts of the book.

I haven't seen American Beauty, but supposedly whatever role Thora Birch played wouldn't matter as long as she was a good actress. Always remember that a good actress/actor is tested in their ability to play a variety of roles. ;) :D
