I am very curious, what do all of my fellow aspiring authors here at sffworld do for a day job? If it's not too personal, I would like to see what you all do for a living, or are you students, what do you currently write (genre, format, etc), and what your goals are as a writer?
To get the ball rolling...I am a theatre artist with a Masters degree in design. I have designed costumes for theatre and television for about six years now, and currently I teach at the University at Albany, SUNY in the Theatre Department. I'm also an actor in professional and semi-porfessional theatres. I write mostly fantasy, and am currently hard at work on a series collaboration: a four book series entitled SECOND SON. My goal, at the moment, is to finish the first novel in this series by the middle of 2002...then the next goal is to submit to publishers!
Who's next?

Hello,
I'm still in Secondary School, but I am thinking up, and noting down ideas for the fantasy adventure I'll write sometime in the future.

Retired and disabled in a wheelchair. Basically, I sit at the keyboard, write outrageous things and infiltrate innocent message boards with intimidating thoughts. I've also managed to publish some books, short stories and articles and I write a column for scifantastic.tripod.com
Actually, my wife thinks I'm a pussy cat.

I'm a stock broker/financial advisor in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately, that leaves little time for writing these days. I htink the last thingI actually completed was posted on this site under W.A. Straub...it was a short story written about a year ago...
Man, I need a vacation.

I'm in my final year of high school (mainly social sciences, languages, so on) .... I'm planning to go on to university, but not right now, in a year or two perhaps. I don't know what I want to study http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif and I don't know what I want to work with either. :/ Next year I hope to go travelling :0)
Anyway.... I am writing short stories and I am working a little every now and then on a novel. Fantasy is what I write, mostly. My main problem is that I am bad at finishing things (rater jumps to the next project at once) http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif so that is my goal, to finish off things I start with if they are good and not just leave them. of course, also to gather enough courage to try and get published. :0)
Ínteresting topic :0)

I'm a computer network manager for a large construction firm. I'm also a part-time student at the local university. I suspcect I'll be a part-time student my whole life.
I write lots of poetry and quite a few short stories. I've started a few novels, but I have the same problem as Linda. Have trouble bringing them to a conclusion.

I used to be a full time house-wife, but that was too incredibly intesting. I was accomplishing far too much and enjoying myself way too much, so that had to be stopped.
Now I work in the wonderful, nifty and incredibly interesting world of technical support, helping ever so grateful and never beligerant people with their internet connections.
One day when I've suffered enough and made petince for all the sins of my past lives, someone will come along and fire me. (For which I'll nominate them for sainthood.)
In the mean time, I write when I have time (that would about never)and wonder how on earth my 10 year old son knows how a hydro electric turbine works, let alone builds one out of legos. *looks a lego structure on table and wonders what the aliens have done with her little boy.*

I was a university student, but have just finished my honours degree in history (and now have to do all those things I promised to do "after the thesis is finished"). I haven't had much time for writing other than of the academic variety for the last few years, but hopefully that will change in the near future. In a bit over a month I start my "real" job, in the public service (and no, don't bother making the jokes - I've heard them all). That may kill all the creativity I have, or it may not - who can tell?

Well, in between my regular job, (the residential property market) I spend copious hours writing my own novels and short stories; nearly as many hours helping out here at SFF, moderating this Forum in particular, as well as being one of the readers and processors of the submissions sent here. (That's fairly time consuming; all the submissions must be read to check for objectional content or suitability etc, and then formatted for the web, which is why we get a little behind sometimes!) Oh, and yes, it's all voluntary work, but I LOVE it! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I also have my own web pages to maintain and a Yahoo! Group - so basically, my page is pretty full!
And then of course there's the jobs at home...
