By the way, does anyone here other than me think that it could be possible for Arkan to forgive Maead (even though she didn't actually do anything wrong)???

To be honest, I haven't really thought about it, but if Arkan were ever going to forgive her, it would take him a long time because he doesn't understand her human emotions and why she would leave him like that. She's only got this short life to live and she wants to (from the point of an Elidhu) cram as much in as possible, meaning she can't wile away all her precious time in his mountain lair. Though I don't doubt that if she was an Elidhu she'd be easily persuaded ;). I don't really think forgiving her would occer to him. Seems to me that if you cross an Elidhu and then hide for a thousand years and come back, they've pretty much forgotten about it.

I do think it's possible though, if they were ever to meet again and he could understand why she did what she did.

oops sorry, I voted for liking him. You don't have to hate a character just because they're a "bad guy". He may very well not be, but if he is, who cares? The best characters in my opinion are undecided in their role in life, whether they are bad or good. And besides, it looks like he just doesn't care enough. Seems most Elidhu don't. And I think he's right in a way when he says that bad and good seem the same to him.

I like him because he is just so superior to humans, in an odd way :D

Yes i agree- Arakan is just misunderstood- he felt that Maerad- having elidhu elemental blood in her would be able to give him that love. Maybe he has just been away from 'life' for so long that he's created a world of his own which HE never has to have contact with the real world from. does that make sense?i don't think it does...i know what i mean though...i think...

But it does make sense!
he would forgive her in the end, but he'd always be wondering why she did it, even if she did explain.
I think that he dosn't deliberately be mean, its just hes an elidhu and so does not understand why the little humans get upset. he's actually very nice, well sometimes, and he does show that he has real emotions.

i like him
but i dont like him more than Cadvan :P
cos cos cos

well... Arkan has quite a peculiar feel, and although i read his voice, i could actually tell (probably because of Alison's awesome writing skills) the wise and mysterious tone he would have.

Reading the part of Appendices, he is also known as the Ice Witch as well as the Ice King/Winterking so maybe he was bi-sexual.
which is kind of sad ='( since that means he loved the maker of the treesong as well as the player.

Wows ^^

and maybe he had been really lonely there... and if he was trying to trick her... in the book

"I thought to honour you as my queen," said the Winterking. Now his voice was sad and full of longing, a young prince wounded by his unfaithful lover.

it just sounded so.. well sad and meaningful..
though of course

i do not care much since
Cadvan is THE BESTTTT WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
i <3 him :')
