Do you guys ever happen to read the first page of a discussion before you jump in, LoL!

This whole thing already went on during the first page. Y'all make me laugh...

Yes, Arkan is probably bi, considering that he and What's his name the Bard that wrote the Treesong down (Nelsor?) were lovers, and it clearly states that both of them were male, but obviously Maerad's not a guy and he wanted to marry her.

Having said that. I like him, sort of. I mean, I don't give a crap about whether he's bi or gay or normal or whether or not he's EEEVVVIIILLL or all that. He's Alison's character so obviously I don't have a thing to say about what he is like. However. I think he is very interesting. I like his endeavors to be kind to Maerad, but I do not like his crashing down everything and everyone in his way of having her. But the Elidhu are considered amoral, that is, they can do no "right" or "wrong," so apparently that isn't out of line for him.

The Treesong doesn't belong to him personally, nor to any other Elidhu or human, but he is clear to Maerad that the whole thing was meant to be oral, that it was never meant to be written down. For all his faults, Arkan has his own part to play in the fate of this world...and even in having a temper tantrum over Maerad he drove her toward the place where she would find Cadvan, Pellinor.

Having said that, I didn't vote at all, because there should be some other options, such as : I both like and dislike him. XD

LoL, Pigs.

I'm making up for the fact that I haven't been here long, so if I have good points maybe you all will like me anyways. :D

Just kidding. I have good points because the books are fresh in my mind, and also because I'm a writer and I recognize some of the things Alison does in her writing.

So. To be on topic...it's ok if you don't like Arkan. You're entitled to that. But I still like-and-don't-like him :P

Design fault, hadn't thought of that when i made it :(

I still like Arken, just not in such a fan girly (:D ) way as before; that wasprobably just because i am a sucker for ANY type of Romance...

Any way, say if Arkan wasn't gay and still liked Mearad after she ran away from him, would they as a couple really work???

...Personnally i don't think it would work in way that i used to and though it could be good in the beginning, it would probably end in heartbreak and misery for at least one of them in the end... :(

i dont think it would be a happy ending, because arkan will never die and maerad eventually will so he will be left heart-broken again.

I really don't think it would work:

1. as Starlily said: Maerad would die and Arkan wouldn't
2. Maerad might be upset, just a teeny bit, when Arkan is in a bad mood and gets his Stormdogs to kill people.
3. Arkan isn't what we would say.... social. So there would be problems when Maerad wants to have a life.

and finaly and most important:

4. After a while of living in and ice palace with the Winterking who is creator of all that is frosty and cold, Maerad would probably run around screaming "I NEED GREEN! I WANT TREES!" at which point Arkan would offer a tree of ice, then Maerad would jump off an icey cliff or, if no cliffs were avalible, she would kill herself by running into a cold, stone wall. and to make it worse, Arkan would have to clean it up, he'd be in a bad mood and kill more people!

wow that was a big point...

LOL:D :D

I don't know how i feel about the winterking i find him interesting

his pesonality is different even to ardina i think his ideas about truth are interesting i don't think that maerad and him suit ( partly cos i'm M+C SHIPPER:D ) how can you love some after knowing them for a couple of days and after about three conversations. i don't think that maerad feels love but desire and beacause she hasn't allowed her to feel this way before it has mad her feelings stronger then the actually are. she wouldn't even allow herself to admitte the she loved cadvan as afriend untill circumstances forced her to do.
if arkan is bisexual, is ardian as well

i don't if i like or not i think that there should be other options.:o :D

I don't know if I like Arkan, but I can't say I dislike him either. He has his own charms and appeal within the books, although I can say I like Ardina much more, but that's for another thread. He's the personification of Winter. Sometimes it can be harsh and unrelenting, with terrifying blizzards and ice storms. But at other times it can be calm and peaceful, like the first snowfall of the season. It's always so gentle and beautiful to look at, much like Arkan. As seen in The Riddle, he can be calm and peaceful, like the first snowfall of Winter, or he can be cold and angry, like a life threatening blizzard.

This is why Allison's skills as an Author are so genius, she can take a season and transform it into a man, or what's close enough to a man, but still keep the seasons unpredictability evident. That's why I can't say I like Arkan, or dislike him. Sometimes I hate the Winter, and sometimes I love it. It all depends.

And although I know it's already been settled, I thought I'd offer my own thoughts into his sexuality. Arkan is Elidhu, and I don't think the Elidhu can be chained down by homosexuality or heterosexuality, or even be bi-sexual. They are described as "wild and feral", and although it's been clarified that they can indeed love, I don't think Arkan views love as we do, or even the Humans in the Pellinor series do. It's a huge assumption, but that's how I've always felt [especially after reading Arkan's character in The Riddle]. He may have indeed loved Nelsor, but has it ever been said that he loved him in a sexual way? I don't recall ever hearing that.

They could have loved each other as brothers do, or father and son, etc. Love doesn't determine sexuality or sexual preference, and unless Allison clarified that Arkan and Nelsor had a sexual relationship, then I don't think that concrete decisions can be made on whether or not Arkan is straight, bi, or gay [Although I think the latter is out of the question, after reading The Riddle, he obviously had some sort of emotion towards Maerad].

But that's just me :P.
