Hobbit

As the second thread is now almost as long as the first, I thought I'd better start the third thread in the trilogy.
Reminder: this thread's Guidelines... as this is in the Fantasy Forum, try and stick to Fantasy books that you've bought (I did say try.... ) and if you want to write about books you've actually read, rather than just bought, then go to the 'Reading in month X' thread, usually as a sticky at the top of the Forum.
For those who need it,
Original Thread: HERE. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2845)
Second thread: HERE. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8572)
(Both of these old threads are now closed).
Keep those tills chinging, and let us know what you've bought!

I just realized something. Why does Hobbit get such a big avatar? Think you're special, huh? Huh? Grrr...
Just took a trip to my favorite second-hand bookstore, where I pretty much buy a bunch of random books without really looking at them, since they cost about fifty cents apiece.
Also, is it against the rules to ask people to provide pithy opinions regarding the books I just bought? Since I know little about them?
Anywho:
Jack Vance, Ecce And Old Earth
OK, it looks like a sci fi book, but I've heard Vance's name a lot in fantasy circles, so I don't know.
Marion Zimmer Bradley, Gravelight
Again, have only heard her name around here.
Clive Barker, Imajica
Can never own too many copies of Imajica! Yup, thats right! <Homer's left eye twitches violently while a bit of drool hangs from his lip, waving his arms akimbo in a spastic fashion>
Stephen Donaldson, White Gold Wielder
and another book I'm pretty positive is sci-fi, so... I won't mention it.
There, you happy? ARE YOU HAPPY BENEVOLENT MODERATORS?!
<Homer curls up in the fetal position in a room he has come to call the Imajica Room, where hundreds of different copies of the book give him comfort from the tyranny of sffworld.com>
I am in some kind of mood today.

I bought from EBay new copies of:
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Clarke
and
The Shadow Roads by Sean Russell
And don't remember if I mentioned these before, but also from EBay (been getting some good deals there lately):
Memoranda and The Beyond by Jeffrey Ford
And just thought I would mention....Homer is weird.
And from one of my secondhand shops:
Mark Helprin's Winter's Tale...finally. I've been looking for this for ages.
Umberto Eco's The Island of the Day Before

oooh a new thread and guess what I bought books in its honor. ;)
I picked up some of the books for my RL SFF book group here. We pick six months at a time, and I get mine all at once instead of just before they are due. Sometimes I have them all and don't have to buy any, but this time I had to buy 3. Two fantasy and one SF.
Tinker by Wen Spencer, PB
Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming, by Roger Zelazny & Robert Sheckley, TP

I just bought books two and three of Hobb's Liveship Traders series.
Also delighted to get a signed copy of The Warrior Prophet, sent straight from Scott Bakker... not a purchase I know, but I gotta make Hobbit jealous when I can... the con attending, author meeting, hairy feet'd, tower dwelling eejit!

I gotta make Hobbit jealous
Oh, and I am, Juzzz - my copy only has a signed bookplate.... ;)
The word's getting round that I went to WorldCon; and I brought back a couple of bags of books. I have promised not to say too much, though. :)
So for now:
Hal Duncan - Vellum (signed)
China Mieville - Looking for Jake (signed - review on the way!)
Robin Hobb - Shaman's Crossing (signed)
Deborah J Millar - Swarmthief's Dance (signed)
George RR Martin - Fevre Dream (signed) (have a copy already but couldn't resist the signed one!). Same too with Dying of the Light, though that is more SF.
There's a lot of SF too. When I get chance I'll pop in there too...
Why does Hobbit get such a big avatar? Ah.... with great size comes responsibility, I've been told. :) And big shoes....
