kay...I've got a quick question...

does anyone here find that your views and opinions about these books change over time or as you re-read them? 'cause that's been happening alot with me... the way I visualize the characters and their surroundings is currently going through some renovations :o :D it's weird...has this happened to anyone else, or am I the only one? Have your ideals stayed rigidly the same or have they too changed, dramatically or subtley?

Whenever I re-read a book I find myself re-evaluating the settings and characters, because I'll find something in the plot, some subtext or foreshadowing that I hadn't picked up before.

One of the most annoying things is when you suddenly realise that how you had imagined a particular setting is completely different to how it was written. Then, no matter how hard you try, it continues to appear in the same old way in your head.

Example- I used to picture Saliman as being lurvely shaven headed, then Alison mentions that he has actually has braids  ... to this day he's still shaven in my mind

Yes! I always imagined Saliman with a shaved head. When I go back to reread the Pellinor books I don't know what I'll do. It'll be so weird to see him with hair!

But, yes, sometimes I end up re-imagining stuff when I reread a book. Like if a certain object is actually to someone's right-hand side, when I had been picturing it on the left or something. Screws up my whole mental image. I had a lot of trouble last year while re-reading the Harry Potter books. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out where the Quidditch pitch was located after I realized that it wasn't where I had thought it was.

yeah...it's weird like that...sometimes I see that I've interpreted a scene perfectly and other times I have gotten it completely wrong.

In the series His Dark Matters I thought the whole time that Will had light brown hair and a normal face...and at the end Phillip Pullman was saying all this stuff about his straight dark eyebrows and black hair, and I was all: WHAT?!?!! I REFUSE TO SEE HIM THIS WAY! And I stubornly kept on imagining him with light brown hair :D :o  :p

Yeh that happens to me too...but who does'nt it happen to?? Does anyone find that movies of the books muddle up what the characters (or other things) look like? I imagined Harry Potter with green eyes first but then the movie came out and now i always see him with blue eyes (Daniel Radcliffe has blue eyes)...It's very strange...Am I the only one:o ??

No you are not! Idunno, I think they got the wrong look for the kids in Narnia (but they did look like they were related, which was a plus), and Tumnos(sp?) didn't look right to me. They did change the Snow Queen, but I think she looks better, way more evil and really good acting.
