Banewreaker & Godslayer - Jaqualine Carey

Just finished them and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed. Easily as good as her Kushiel series and the ending was great!

I was a bit worried at the start as with there being no bad guys I was wondering if I could really get into it but her story telling ability kept me going long enough for me to take sides. Taneros and the fjel were great.

I highly reccomend the books unless your one of those anally rententive originality peeps. If you are you might not appreciate the clear Tolkien influrence.

Chris, I agree. Well, at least on Banewreaker, which I reviewed (http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/161.html) last year. Absolutely loved it, thought it was one of the best, strongest novels I read last year. Too bad stupid Tor split it into two books when it was really one book, but that's another rant.

I just picked up Godslayer a couple of weeks ago and I'm really looking forward to getting into it.

Big fan, doesn't do deserve the cold shoulder many if the Kushiel fans are giving it, it definitely is a worthy work (not to mention different) in its own right.

The work Carey does examining perceptions of evil is completely fascinating IMHO.

Very nice lady as well.

I started reading Banewreaker and could not get more than a few pages in to find out that one of the main characters is still hurting from his wife cheating on him 1000(?) years ago. (I do not think this ia a spoiler as it is in the jacket description and, as I said, right in the beginning of the book). Is the entire books as melodramatic as the start?
