I like both of her poems and her books!:D
They are beautifully made.

Well, thanks all! I don't expect those who read the Pellinor books to read the poetry (which is, as you say, very different), so it's nice to stumble over some readers who have, as you say, branched out! And no, it's not unfair that the poetry is known much less; that's how it is with contemporary poetry. It will always appeal to a few people, whereas fantasy will always appeal to many. What matters is the quality of the readers; and I am lucky in both areas! I have never expected poetry to be popular, and don't write it for poularity - it's always been rather more private and mysterious than that. But like all writers, it's nice to know when it finds its readers.

Fair dues there. I think when faced with a piece of poetry, each of us percieve the message differently, often times an idea completely different than what the writer was thinking when it was written. I suppose that is why poetry is so mysterious and private, as you say- unless there is a clear message in the poem, it becomes a piece that can have two, if not several different meanings.

That is why I love poetry, and think it's something that should be celebrated; you are one of those authors who can capture a certain feeling in a poem, and yet leave enough "wiggle" room so that the reader can make their own guesses as to what the overall message could be. I think having poetry included in the books was a great idea, and even if you didn't expect it to be popular, with some of your readers, it is.:)

From that link up there, its certainly different to the poetry in the books, its far more realistic (yes....i am aware the others are fantasy, i just cant think of a better word ;))

Still, its really good, if slighly dark in places
"seeing in your drowning face how their flesh collapsed insdie you" ???

Certainly interested enough to order the book (can anyone recommend me a good place to get sutff like this in the UK?....Amazon has finally failed me)

Yikes! The last post on this was in March! Yeah! I hopefully get to revive it.

I really like her poems too. Actually I like most poems. But I agree with previous people. The books are better. If she wrote long poem (forgot what they're called) like Paradise Lost or even one like The Lady of Shalott (that's may favorite poem).

In the books there are so many tidbits of ballads and poems that the Bards sing. Are the full version of the different ballads/poems/songs out there? Has Ms. Croggen written the full version of them? I really like The Lay of Andomian and Beruldh, and I wish I had all of the lyrics! As a strings musician, I just can't pass up that interesting of a song!

Thanks
Anna E.

And the question goes unanswered...

Anna,

I'm not much of a Pellinor expert, though I have read the books. As far as full and complete versions of those songs and ballads goes, I don't think that there are any. Of course, one of the Pellinorites may come along shortly and alleviate my ignorance. :D

Yeah, but she hasn't been on here for months....:(

Well, I guess I will be content with the parts that are in the book, unless Ms. Croggen happens to be on here in the relatively near future :)
