This was one of the first Historical/Military Fantasy series I read, and even now it's still a fave, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion about it. Is there anyone else out there who enjoyed it as well?

I think Cherryh gets more attention for her sci-fi, but I did read the Fortress series and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's been a long time, so I don't remember a lot of it. I do remember thinking Tristam was a really interesting character.
I read somewhere recently that Cherryh is currently writing a new novel, called Fortress of Ice that is set in that world. I haven't really found any details about it, but I'm sure I will read it when it comes out.

I've read Cyteen, which I really enjoyed, but I've not read any of her sci-fi. I'm not big on sci-fi to be honest - I prefer Fantasy - but Cyteen and the idea of cloning was fascinating.
Tristen, along with Hobb's Fitz and Martin's Jon are my favourite heroes :p
I had heard about Fortress of Ice, but apart from the fact it's supposedly in the process of being written, that's all I know. But I would definitely buy it when it's published.
Tristen reminds me a little of a cross between Jordan's Rand and Mat.

Well I have the first one sitting in my To Read pile...and I'm quite looking forward to it, even though it'll be a long until I get to it...

I haven't read the fortress books, but recently I finished The Chronicles of Morgaine - I think they are fantasy with a science fiction twist. I enjoyed them, especially the original ideas, but I found them a little slow moving (action wise)

Do try it - I can highly recommend it! The whole series was wonderful I thought, although book 2 was probably the slowest. At the end of the last book I wanted MORE!

Yes, the second book in the cycle was quite slow I thought - she seems to suffer from second book syndrome! :p I liked Vanye, but wanted to slap him upside quite a few times! Morgaine reminds me of Jordan's Moiraine! Hmm, that's the second Cherryh/Jordan similarity I've found, yet I've never thought about that very much before. Has a comparision between the two ever been made in either fandom, does anyone know?

browsing through keith parkinson homepage, i came across some very good covers for CJ Cherryh russian inspired book (Rusalka is one of them). Has anyone read them. I'm interested, because russians are next door neighbours and they have some interesting myths - like swan lake ...

Fortress of Ice is due out in the U.S. May '06. There will be at least one more "Fortress" book after that. Currently Cherryh is working on the long awaited Cyteen II. Which at the rate she writes and gets edited may even be out as early as late '06 or early '07. Three Cherryh books in one year would almost be too much to take!
