Hi. I posted on other threads before writing this, so sorry!

I first picked up The Gift when reading for a national book award scheme in the UK. I got hooked and finished it in less than 24 hours, reading it twice in 2 days.

I even read it under the desk in Chemistry (well when I had finished my work, and everyone was finishing off, but still)! That's pretty unusual for me, as I do pay attention in lessons.

My favourite lessons are: Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Latin. I don't subscribe to the view that girls shouldn't like the sciences - I love them. I'm also hoping to take Ancient Greek for GCSE - got to make my choices this year. I also love the classics (Latin is not dull!)

Hey Dreamer.

You aren't alone. i read the Gift in under 24hours (and the only other book i've done that to is the fourth Harry Potter book so Alison. feel priveliged!! :D ) Well the fact that you pay attention in class is quite a rare trait in pplz i know so i tip my hat to you. :)

I agree. although i hate science and math based subjects i think it's mad that you refuse to cnform to social values. ancient Greek should be interesting. but as for latin. i know a little from doing italian for so long and art of that is based on latin i prefer to play my music. i'm not a huge language fan except for languages few can appreciate like music :) Nonetheless i think learning another language would be interesting. My friend learns indonesian and is doin it for her TEE (equivalent of GCSE over here.) She is amazingly god at it and can whole cnoversations in fluent indonesian. tis mad to listen to her and her teacher talk away. even i'm beginning to pick stuff up.

Anywayz hello and wlecome to all whom i hav not yet spoken to. i must depart for now. **looks grudgingly over at Intro Calc book** i need to do some hw.

~ Tari :)

Thanks for all your nice comments.

It is possible to learn Latin outside of school. If you want to find out about that, have a look at this site: Cambridge Latin Course (http://www.cambridgescp.com/main.php). Click on the CLC User link on the left-hand side of the page or search for independent learning. It's the course site for the course my school uses - its a really interesting course (nice simple grammar & info on Roman culture.

vale! (Latin for farewell)

Aww you get to learn Latin and Greek! That's awesome. There are schools in my city (Toronto) that offer that but not my school. I have been taking French for the last 7 years (in Canada you have to take French for at least 6 years, since its one of our official languages), however, so that makes it easier to understand Latin and other Latin-derived languages like Italian or Spanish.

I thought I'd throw out some of my fave subjects too =D : English, music (I play the clarinet and violin), Advanced Placement World History, and Advanced Placement Psychology. Anyone else here taking AP courses? They're an international program...

And welcome, dreamer!

Hello :) I'm completely and utterly new here, as I'm sure you can all very well guess. :p I never knew about the Pellinor series until I picked up The Naming, and I'm extremely glad I did. I absolutely love it :D Too bad that I live in Canada, and not Australia or the UK. I'd be able to get the book faster. :(

I love to read, and I love to write and my favorite subjects are English AP and Social AP, naturally ;) However, even though I live in Canada like Custos Morum, I've never heard that we had to learn French for at least six years even though it's one of our country's official languages. I do take French though but I'm pretty sure my French is on par with that of a three year old French kid's so... :p I also take Science AP, since you're asking Custos Morum :)

Anyways, it's nice meeting you all. :)

Welcome! I'm glad someone else knows what AP courses are, lol. Doesn't it totally suck, having to wait a year for the Riddle to come out? Gahh.

Hmm maybe it's just in Ontario that we have to take French for six years... from grades 4 to 9. I thought that was for all of Canada until I remembered each province makes up their own curriculum for education.

Bon soir, tout le monde!

Aww you get to learn Latin and Greek!

Everyone has to do Latin for 4 years, whether you want to or not and then take it for GCSE in my school. Ancient Greek is optional for GCSE, and no-one has to do it unless they want to. If you take it you can't learn another modern foreign language until 6th form (we all have to do French for 5 years, up to GCSE, but you can take another modern language as well for GCSE).

Everyone says Ancient Greek is hard, but I like a challenge. I must be slightly deranged to want to take history and geography as well - everyone says it will be so much work.
