Yeah, you could put it that way... actually, shocked and angry might be nearer the mark, but "taken aback" makes it sound much nicer - y'know, like the bookseller retained a gentlemanly air, and handed my pineapple back to me with a little bow.
Sadly? SO not true.
Mind you, it's probably not part of the guidelines for booksellers "How to react if you have a pineapple inadvertently thrown at you by manic customer" just really wouldn't look so good on a Rule Book. You know, it might put people off a little. Hey, maybe they condense it, or make it into initials, so... wait... H.T.R.I.Y.H.A.P.I.T.A.Y.B.M.C. Except that doesn't really condense it, and you'd spend so much time trying to work out what H.T.R... oh, etcetera... stands for that they'd never get any applications in... And if I'd been him, and had a pineapple chucked at me, I think I'd have been a little like WTF?! Still... the book's on order, which is the important thing.
D'you think it's possible to babble on a computer? Cos if it wasn't, I SO just made it possible. Apologies for the babble. :o
Thanks for the praise for ordering the Riddle; though I don't know that I can accept praise for ordering it, cos I really wanted to - but thanks anyway!

The more people order the book, the more booksellers notice it. Especially if they're hit with a pineapple in the process.
Not that I'm recommending botanical abuse of booksellers, mind...

Of course not. Wouldn't dream of it. Even if they ARE obnoxious. *Positively oozes innocence*.
Me personally, I was more worried about the pineapple. I mean, I have to make fruit salad with that!
Yes, I understand your point about bringing the book to people's attention; and also, I'm sorry for monopolozing your time with talk of pineapples. Thank you!
Er... yeah. Etta.

Hello everyone! =D
My name is Jenn, nicknamed Elfling by some friends because of my Tolkien obsession a few years ago and my tendencies to sometimes act eerily Elf-like. I'm 18 and live in New Jersey, just a hop outside of Philadelphia. I recently acquired the Naming and finished it only moments ago. I'm devastated to hear that the Riddle won't be out until next November in the US. I realize the need to release it in paper back but that really doesn't effect me since I'm buying all of the books upon release in hardcover. Other than Tolkien, I love Tamora Pierce and own every book she has ever written. Other books I enjoy are His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman, The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix, and the Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce, among many, many others. I love anime [Japanese animation] and video games. Music is life. Some of my favorite bands are The Academy Is..., Panic! At the Disco, HelloGoodbye, Fall Out Boy, and so many more. All of this is only brushing the brinks of my insanity, but I'm sure anyone reading this has had enough. ^-^

Hey, and welcome! Apart from your taste in music, I have a lot in common with you. I love the Naming, I looooove the Abhorsen trilogy, I love Tamora (although her more recent Tortall books have disappointed me somewhat) and I like anime and video games, too. I haven't read the Darkangel trilogy, though... and of course, I love both LOTR and Harrryyyyy Potter!
What's cool about this forum is that Alison herself pops in now and then to answer questions and comment on stuff. And are you sure you're not getting the Riddle til November? Cuz I live in Canada and we're getting it in May... so it should be out in the U.S. at the same time...

Welcome Elfing! And I'm sorry for the wait for The Riddle...
Hi Custos - popping in here with some bad news, I'm afraid -
A month or so ago, Candlewick decided to put The Riddle pub date back a few months, because they're releasing the paperback Naming in June. So it won't be out in the States until - and I'm very very sorry - November.
I'm kind of hoping that maybe things will catch up in the US, it's still very early days with the series, after all. The Australian and UK editions now come out at the same time, so the English readers don't have to wait any longer than Australians, and maybe they'll do the same in the States if it does well enough to take the risk. I think they did something like that with Harry Potter. In the meantime, it isn't up to me...
