Me too...all i get to do all day is trudge rnd school wondering why the hell our tech & art teachers seem 2 be so obsessed by logos this year, and what the point of algabraic scatter diagrams and graphs are in the national curricular is. I mean- we had a full 55mins just on semi colons yesterday. we covered thse in...ermm...year 3!!grrrr.sozzy...i'm a teensy bit annoyed. lucky! wait how does the school thing go in australia?
theres 13 years...but only 11 are compulsory, the first year is called kindergarten and basically u do nothing but listen to stories learn th names of colours and how to write ur own name (this was my fav year) then the rest are years 1 - 12 when you finish yr 6 you move from primary school to high school and in high school you can leave after u finish year 10 but if u do this then u generally cant get into university/college/whatevr u want to call it its more for people who have appenticeships i.e. who want to become builders/plumbers/hairdressers/beauty therapists etc.
then u go on and do yrs 11 and 12 which are th hardest most annoying years...but yes i did them...and at the end theres a hell of a lot of exams about stupid stuff which doesnt count for anything in th real world (i wrote a 18 page english essay on 'imaginative journeys') you get a certificate saying youve sucessfully completed your HSC(higher school certificate) and if u applied for it u also get a uai which is a score/ranking/some random number out of 100 and this is used to get into university. courses like law and medicine have uai's of like 99.9 or some ridiculous number and th course that im doin (advanced science) was 96.4 and arts degrees are generally between 70/80
ANYWAY!!!!! :p i think thats enough about the terrible system which has taken 12 years of my life...
P.S. bridie im already tracking down the gift an th riddle, i should get them tomo or th next day...excellent!
