Humm, I am from Spain and I didn't know about this book being published here (I don't read much fantasy, in fact) but now it seems to me that I will give it a try if I find it :)

You should! I read this book in English last year and am now currently one of two(?) advance reviewers of Scott's The Thousandfold Thought that have received their copies. I'd highly recommend it in whichever language you could get it in. I personally want a copy in Spanish just so I can compare and contrast the language feel - I'm reading bilingual now at last and would love the practice of reading it in Spanish without comparing the English text to it :D

Well, I'm a spanish reader who has been some time in this page,but I didn't know that Scott had his own forum. Great, I have just finished The darkness that comes before (or, en el Principio fue la Oscuridad, which is not a literal translation cause it doesn't sound good) and now I see that I can congratulate the author.

It's great how Scott puts together a lot of Filosophy, Politics and Religion in the plot so naturally, and still the book is very easy to read. I enjoyed how the characters are drawn, each one with an unique vision of the world, there is a lot of humanity here. Kellus has become one of my favorites fantasy characters, I want to see what he does in the next books. The only problem is that the book is quite introductory, so there aren't many turn in the story yet (the most importants are in the begining, when you haven't had time to get used to the characters), and the female characters are, by now, less interesting than the others.

I think the translation is good, though I haven't read the book in English, the enviroment is well drawn.

I also recomend it to Odo, though you don't usually read fantasy, this book is far from being a topic fantasy book. And also the edition is very good, the book hasn't been divided like usual, and the second one is coming in April. I tell it because the same editorial was editing Steve Erikson's Malaz, but they made a mess with it, and now they are not publishing them anymore (so I could only read the first in Spanish :mad: )

That's a relief to hear! I was going to get my wife to check the translation for me - you may have saved me from making yet another onerous request. (The thought of reading the book one more time would likely make her head explode!)

I know it's been over a month since I read/reviewed the book in Spanish translation (thanks again Scott for mailing it to me, twice! - stupid US mail *grumbles*), but I thought it was a very well-done translation. If anyone wants to know, the second book, 'The Warrior Prophet' was published in Spain several months ago, and I liked it a lot more than the first one. It was also very well translated, and this time the title was translated almost literally, 'El Profeta Guerrero'. They changed the order of the words, it's like ' The Prophet Warrior'. Wat do you think about ths change? It´s important? Kelhus is more Warrior or more Prophet?

Hummm, I think the translation of the title is correct. I mean, "warrior" in "The warrior prophet" is an adjective, right? It is similar to "The tall man", where "tall" is the adjective that modifies the noun "man", isn't it? Then "The warrior prophet" should be translated as "El profeta guerrero" where "guerrero" (warrior) is the adjective (in Spanish adjectives usually follow the noun they modify).
