Tut Tut Alison!! :D Wat have we told you about going off topic!!
(Sorry couldn't resist!)

Anyhoo. . .one of my other fav quotes was again said by Cadvan. . wise Bard he is. "The wise are those who know how little they know." . . .in The gift i think. I haven't read it in a while but I've always remebered it.

I like that one too. It reminds me of "Faust". I don't know if you've heard of that before, it's a drama by Goethe. It starts with Faust (the main character) realizing that altough he studied almost everything, he really knows nothing...

To stay on topic:
I donīt know why I didn't think about this earlier...

"Drunk with beauty, I tore down
Armfuls of blossom.
How desolate the marred sky!"
- The Naming, page 175

I love it...so sad that he had to die... ;_;

Moi? Off topic? Surely not...:p

Glad you like that poem, Miss Mary! (And great to hear a mention of Goethe - Faust is one mighty play...) It's an inverted haiku, actually, which I call a senryu (I think) - 7 - 5 - 7 syllables in each line, instead of 5 - 7 - 5, as in your basic haiku...

i read that part really early this morning, it made me cry. :( good choice.

i'm still looking for this particular one in the gift, early in the book. He just sounds so wise. I Love It.

I finished reading Faust today, and had some time to look into the Pellinor books again. :D

I really like this one, because it reminds me of my mom:

"The law is that the hungry must be fed, and the homeless must be housed, and the sick must be heald."
The Naming, p104

i found this one while reading the riddle for the umteenth time last night.
pg. 231 in the riddle

"how can you lose time?" asked mirka. "time belongs to no one."

it really caught my eye, because it is very true. time doesn't belong to anyone  . i also like this series of quotes between Arkan and Mearad in the riddle (pg 381):

"i know the names of everything," said Arkan.
"that's not true," said Maerad, without rancour, and then added in an obscure impulse: "i'll warrant you don't know the name of my brother"
"your brother? i know his name, as i know the names of your mother and father and all else about you, more than you know yourself, Maerad of Pellinor, Elednor of Edil-Amarandh." A shiver went down Maerad's spine, but not an entirely unpleasant one.
"what is his usename, then?" she asked politely.
"it is Cai of Pellinor, of course," he said
"no, it's not," said Maerad. She looked back at him scornfully, and for an instant his gaze faltered.

i really liked it, Maerad outsmarting the winter king. :D sorry if it was lengthy, but i didn't want to ruin the tone. :o nice job alison

Grows a Briar on the Wave
Triple tongued its voice of Fire
Edil-Amarandh will save'
p 311 The Gift, from the Canticles of Pel of Norloch
