I like this one from Ardina:
'Only this is clear: you have a great heart but will only find it to be so through great pain. This is the wisdom of love and its doubtful gift. Yet I have endured much suffering and still remain unbitter and unclosed.'
The Gift (Rachida) pg 307.
This really spoke to me at the time. I think it's beautiful.

"'Lying is not the same thing as speaking the truth, ' said Arkan. 'Elidhu d not lie. Why should we lie? Only humans lie, because they think that language can give them another reality. And then out of their lies they make that reality. Have you not understood that yet? Why do you think Sharma is as he is? He is the Great5 Liar, and his lie almost became the whole world."
-Arkan, The Riddle, p. 382
At the moment, I am in the process of researching and writing an honors thesis on the subject of framing in society. Framing is when we use certain words to cast a certain light on th subject we are discussing so that one side is favored or looked badly upon, depending on the conversation. As a linguistics major, this quote really resonated with me, and I may well end up using it in my paper. We do this: we tell lies and then create a relaity out of those lies. I was so excited to see this so clearly in print, and I hope that it does not go unnoticed!

pg. 412 of The Gift (The Naming for some of you!)
Cadvan to Maerad:
"By all we have suffered together, by the sworn bond you owe me as your teacher, and by the deeper bond you owe me as your friend I bid you tell me: What has happened to you, Maerad of Pellinor?"
It's at the beginning of the chapter 'old scars', and it gets me so choked up every time! Masterful use of words Alison!
although the other quotes on this thread are good too...
have got to say i am yet another fan of this quote, such a great use of words...
keep smilin xx
