While I have to say, I did think it was pretty good, I might stop at the first book. I've heard the next few are downhill, and the later books are awful.
Can I get any opinions in the series? I just don't want to waste my time.

I enjoyed the first three books... Some good ideas and interesting perspectives on the nature of magic and the like...
But from book four onwards - BLAH!!! He seemed to have lost his way (and I read all the way upto Naked Empire), but I hear tell the Chainfire is a lot better book than his predecessors... Might be tempted to read it...

If you want my opinion, I would keep reading. And then stop, (like I did) when you don't like it.

Well, I'll say that I liked the books up through book 6, I wasn't particularly fond of book 5, but 6 was my favorite one out of all 8 of the ones I've read.
Book 7, The Pillars of Creation was the turning point for me. After spending 6 books investing myself in the characters, Goodkind did the ol' switcheroo and brought in characters I just didn't care about. So, it was like I had to force myself to get through parts of it. But I did like when some of the characters we knew were finally introduced later in the book.
Naked Empire, book 8, by far is the worst one in the series. It's one of the very few books I've ever skipped ahead in because it was so boring and repetitive in parts. It was after reading Naked Empire that I decided I was just going to wait until Goodkind finished the series before I finished it. I've heard good things about Chainfire though, I still think I'll wait until I hear how the next book goes before I commit myself to more.
I would recommend reading up through book 6, Faith of the Fallen. That's my fav and it seemed to be after that where the characters started to change and the books became boring to read.

I started reading the Sword of Truth series 2 1/2 months ago and I just started Naked Empire. I have yet to really dislike any of the books. The first four were fantastic in my opinion. Book five is good, but half of it is a side story (that ties together with the main story of course). Book six is a little preachy, but I loved it (it's one of my favorites). Book seven is sort of like book five, except the entire thing is a side story.
I've heard a lot of bad things about Naked Empire, but I'm only on chapter four ;).
I fyou really enjoyed the first one, there's no reason that you won't enjoy at least the next 3.

Yeah, I felt the same way. I never really noticed the preachiness that much until I started reading reviews of it, then in hindsight, I could see what people were talking about. But I still think, without having read Chainfire, that Faith of the Fallen is by far the best book in the series. :D

Hi Boarder :)
I thoroughly enjoyed the first 6 books, absolutely!!
But like the others say, as long as you are enjoying what you are reading, then continue - it doesnt matter what anyone else says ;)

Have to say that from about book 4 onwards, Mr Goodkind seemed to be spending a lot of time repeating what happened in earlier books... Which seemed to be a little pointless... And he seemed to spend a lot of time thinking of new and cruel ways to torture the Sisters of Light...

I think the Sot is a great series. But dont take my word for it. Read it yourself and see how you like it yeah maybe some books are better then the others but overall its a good series. any displeasure along the way, chainfire will make up for them.

Hmm...it seems as if quite a bit of posts have been edited out of the thread. Oh well.
I think if I really feel like reading it again, I'll pick up the second book, but right now I'm going to check out something else.
