Hey, I was wondering how long it usually takes for TPBs to be released after the hardback is released. I'm not the biggest fan hardbacks but if its going to take a while I don't know if I could hold out for the TPB of "A Feast for Crows". And another thing, why did they change the cover design mid-way through a series. It totally screws up my collection. Not to mention the fact that I don't really like the new covers much, oh well, what can you do, eh?

I dont really know off hand, but I suspect they are going to take their sweet time with it :P
I gave up waiting for the paperback version for his last one.

My guestimate is five or six months.

Hm.
It was released here in trade - no hardback for us! I imagine NZers would have to order in hardback if such was desired.
Is that the same for UK releases I wonder?

Yeah, I remember the wait for Storm of Swords in paperback was VERY long. A few years after the release of the hardback.

According to Amazon.co.uk (so be warned: that this may not necessarily be reliable!) the UK trade paperback and the mass paperback date are both May 2006. This does sound unusual (and therefore possibly unreliable!) - as Severn says, the trade is usually out at the same time as the HB.
Amazon US is giving August 2009 as the PB version!
Further note: if price is a factor, the UK HB is normally £18.99 ($33.56) available now at £11.39. ($20.12) The Trade paperback will be 12.99. ($22.95) This is being shown as discounted to £9.09, ($16.06) but IMO it may not be worth the difference in price to wait 6 months.

Jesus, why does it take so long. Thats ridiculous! Hardbacks suck, unless they are the nice leather bound collectors edtion of something worth being leather bound, such as "The Lord of the Rings". Well if it really does take that long there is no way I will be able to wait for it. I have reread the series already and even the second time around it was an amazing story. And I'm sure this volume is no different given the fact that the books seem to get better with each new volume.

It's difficult not to view it with a purely cynical view: it takes so long because more revenue can be made with the hardback and trade editions...
I know exactly what you mean - I wasn't willing to wait either so forked out NZ $36 for the trade (that's an expensive book purchase here, grrr).

It is expensive forking out over 35$ for a hardcover- none the less the rest of the series are great books and I wouldnt mind having a harcover because I will probably read it over and over. I only buy Hardcovers on special occasions and I guess this is one.

If you're looking at matching hardbacks, then the US HB editions are being rereleased in matching new covers by Bantam. Don't particularly like them myself, though I have A Game of Thrones as a HB in that edition, kindly signed by GRRM for me.
Having said that, that doesn't mean to say that Dance or the following volumes will continue in that style.....
...and my point earlier was that, if you time it right (like now!), the cost of the HB will be as cheap or cheaper than the cost of the trade PB without the waiting....
(I also know a place where you can get signed HB copies of Feast if you want to pay full price. :D )
