Deadhouse Gates HC US Size (Dimensions) Question

Jack

So, I've decided it would be neat to purchase the Malazan books in HC. I ordered Deadhouse Gates Hardcover through a third party seller on amazon, and the copy I received was smaller then my HC edition of Gardens of the Moon. I was told I probably received a Book Club edition. Yuck.

So I want to go ahead and reorder direct from Amazon to get a matching size, but I just wanted to go ahead and verify that a Book Club edition is what I received. Anyone else own DG in HC (US)? Is it the same size as GoM HC (US)? And is there any other way I can tell if I received a book club edition?

Thanks for any replies.

EDIT: So I looked at the awesome Canadian and I'm assuming European covers in the Reading In... thread that EA posted, and they are so much cooler then the US covers. However, when I go to amazon.ca (canada), the GotM cover they show is the freaking US cover. The cost of importing all the cool covers from Europe is just going to be too much, so I'll just have to stick with the americanized versions, which are much, much cheesier. Though I do think the new Memories of Ice cover is pretty cool, and the DG cover is almost identical. So I guess I'm basing my prejudice completely on one cover. Hope they don't blow the rest.

As an aside, does anyone own Memories of Ice US HC? All I see around is a massive TP tome. Really, I just don't want to own this series in MMPB, and I like HC more then TP.

My original questions stand.

EDIT (FINAL): Well, I checked out my copy, and found there was no price listed, so I definitely think it is a book club edition <sigh>. I appreciate the help; no need to reply any more, query resolved.

Homer, I get nabbed on the book club edition a lot. Whenever I really don't want a BC edition, I talk to the seller a lot about how to tell whether it's book club edition. On older book, on the inside front of the dust jacket it will say "Book Club Edition" near the bottom. They stopped doing that on newer books.

Most hardbacks are in the neighborhood of 9.5 inches high. Book club editions are about an inch shorter, 8.5" high. So sometimes I'll ask them to physically measure the book. (Be careful on EBay. Sometimes the seller will use the stock info on a book that says it's 9.5" high, but it will really be a book club edition that is 8.5" high.)

Other than size, the best way I've found to tell a book club edition is that there is no price listed anywhere on them. Usually a regular publication copy will say in the jacket that it's $Xx.xx. A book club edition will have no mention of a price anywhere on it. Those are lots of different ways you can tell a book club book from a "real" book.

Recent book club editions will NOT say that it's a book club edition. I'm not sure why this it, but unless it's a special publication that only they are making (like a special book club edition omnibus or something like that, it won't say that it's a book club book anywhere on there.)

For some books I don't care if they're BCE, other ones send me through the roof if a BCE comes, especially if they don't say or if I ask them and it still comes as a BCE. So check back with exactly what it said in the ad that you bought it from on Amazon. It could be that if it somehow implies that it was a real copy that you can get your money back for that one. If it just says HB, though, you're stuck, because you did get a hard back book.....

I personally think that they should be required by law to tell you if it's a book club book or not...it aggravates me that much sometimes.

Hope some of that helps. They're just my humble experiences buying used books and getting nabbed by BCEs.

Oh, and you can find Memories of Ice in HC here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0765314320/qid=1131404184/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-8758026-9560816?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

My guess is that the TPs sell better, so most people are only stocking those, but the HC is available from Amazon, in addition to the TP.

Deadhouse Gates Dimensions according to Amazon.com:

9.3 x 6.6 x 1.6 inches

Gardens of the Moon Dimensions according to Amazon.com:

9.8 x 6.4 x 1.5 inches

Memories of Ice Dimensions according to Amazon.com

9.5 x 6.4 x 2.4 inches

So, they all look like they slightly differ in size, but I'm pretty sure my DG is smaller then what is above indicated.

Thanks for the tips, Erf, I'll check to see if I find a price, and also physically measure the book size when I get home. And I'll take your advice in the future on asking careful questions of my third party sellers.

BTW, look at that 2.4 inch width on Memories of Ice. Wow. Another massive fantasy tome.

Memories of Ice is huge! I think my paperback was almost 1200 pages.
