I have set up this new thred in the hope that one of the viewers can aid me in this conundrum that has eluded me for some time now. I would like your best opinion on the greatest race of warriors of the peoples of middle earth!

PLease post and inform my so that i may escape this hole of ignorence that i have dug for myself.

Now there is a HELLUVA question to ask...

Elves are long lived - and have great prowess with the bow and sword...
Dwarves, not as long lived as Elves, but more than men - have strength, studiness, usefull with axe and hammer
Men - well, such diversity of warriors, from the Horsemen of Rohan to the Dúnedain (of which Aragorn was Chieftain)
Orcs - Semi-stupid, but relentless, of which the Uruk-hai were the most vicious...
Trolls - big and EXTREMELY stupid... But strong and can do a lot of damage - and are very useful for battering the defences of a place...

I think it depends on what you mean by Greatest Race of Warriors... All races have the ability to be warriors, even Hobbits... And extreme situations breed extreme actions and abilities of the individual...

I'd say the Riders of Rohan seem to be the best warriors.

The Easterlings
I mean did you see their armour in the films. They have to be great warriors.
And the Knights of Dol Amroth which are left up to our imagination to picture or you can check my link in movies vs books.

Ents. Slow to wrath but devastating.

I always had a fondness for the corsairs of Umbar, the Knights of Dol Amroth always had me in rapture, that entrance into Minas Tirth was a smooth entrance. The Host of Numenor, it must have been something special.

Yet my personnel fave would be the Noldor, superior arms, armour, the never failing light in there eyes. Beautifully described warriors, yet still able to fight with prowess!!!

My vote would have to go to either the Uruk Hai or the Numenoreans, they're both methodical and relentless, the Uruk hai though, are incapable of "free thinking" in battle, one purpose and one purpose alone... kill... destroy... but yeah. The Numenoreans were also as methodical, but because they could freely think, they were more likely to retreat (though it probably didn't happen) Also, they were armored better from the back, the Uruk Hai only having chainmail (at least the movie ones did.) But, also, the advantages to free thinking are obvious, you can... think for yourself (wow, i just stated the obvious) if your leader is killed, you can still find others to take orders from (or become a leader) So... yeah, its between these two, they both have weaknesses and strengths.

I started to think about this question from the point of view of what it would be like to fight against the various races. Summary:

Men - well, pretty ordinary, I guess.

Elves - embarrassing. They'd make you look like you were in slow motion; and just think how awful it would be to kill a beautiful near-immortal being...

Dwarves - incredibly awkward. I'm 6'3'' - how would I fight someone swinging an axe at groin level? I don't even want to think about that!

Orcs - tiring, frightening, relentless, and a bit smelly. I imagine they would allow no rest when attacking, like "Zulu" x50.

Ents - brief! (Well, how long would you last against a 20 foot tall opponent?).

Trolls - they're big, and strong, but relatively slow and a bit thick. I think I could manage them. I'd rather fight a troll than a dwarf, any day. Still thinking about that axe...

Maiar - entirely pointless even trying, I should think.

Balrogs - you don't fight a Balrog. You run away from a Balrog. (One flaw in the books/films, I think, is Gandalf telling the others to move away and let him take on the Balrog in Moria. The second that thing showed up, I'd have been moving in the opposite direction at remarkable velocity - and by the time the bridge broke I'd have been in Osgiliath (if not Khand).
