I'm in the Vale of Shadows and in the cavern were there is a door which I can't open and it says the gears are in perfect condition and might need a switch to activate them. I think this is the right way to go but I can't find any way to open the door even though I've searched everywhere. I know that I might be totally wrong and need to look somewhere entirely different to complete Arundels quest. Please tell me how to complete Arundels quest, I've been stuck on it for ages.

Why don't you just download the walkthrough off the web?

If I have this right... you have just fought a huge battle to get into the room with the door... the switch is on a pillar near the centre of the room...
