hi guys!
i hust received the first book of michael a. stackpoles 'dragoncrown war cycle'. now, i learned that there is some sort of a prequel to this series, called 'the dark glory war'.
now i'm wondering: should i read this prequel first or is that of no importance?
thanks for the help!

The prequel is of extreme importance. It's also probably the best book in the series.

But, having not read the prequel, its completely not needed to read and enjoy the new books. I'm sure there is some background that would be useful, but i never found myself lost in any way.
I liked these books quite a bit, though he's much better at the logistics of moving people and armies around than subtle characterization or love interests....

I would definitely read the prequel before starting the trilogy...

I agree with the others, reading The Dark Glory War first would be a good idea. It is a stand-alone book and it takes place 25 years before the trilogy--but lost of stuff that happens in that book is referred to in the trilogy, especially in the last book (The Grand Crusade).
Have fun, these books are not overly deep but they are pretty entertaining, especially if you like lots of battle scenes. :)

well, i finished the dark glory war and i have to admit, i have some mixed feelings about it.
i liked the beginning pretty much but soon i was asking myself 'why are they doing this? why is this of no serious concern to anyone?' etc. etc.
however, the ending (and i mean the very last page) was fantastic. something out of the ordinary. i'm now midway 'fortress draconis' and thinks its not that bad. light-reading, but entertaining...
