Now that 4 is out, what do you guys think of it? The changes. Better or worse?
I found it pretty cool, that heroes can gain levels, and fighting abilities as well. The only disappointment is that the creatures cannot be upgraded. It's pretty crap. Not being able to upgrade I mean.
But overall, I found the game pretty entertaining, but lost interest right after the campaigns were done.

Heroes 4 just didn't do it for me. If you like the HOMM line of games, check out Age of Wonders 2 or Kohan. Two very excellent turn based strategy games!

OK, here comes trouble....

I bought and played HOMM3. Only against the AI, so I cant vouch for Multi-player.

But I really dont think the game is all that great. Its replayability is kind of low in my mind. I like the premise of the game A LOT, but thought the execution was flawed.

1. Too Hero centric. yes, I know that is the game, but you couldnt move units without a hero. Plus, if I have a Hero, and some kick ass magical items, it is all over in battle. Get Attack and Defense ratings up there, and your opponent is doomed unless he has an equal hero. Get two good heros, pile all your stuff on them, and run around and kill everything. I know that is a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.

2. Very little tactical finesse. I like playing out my battles, but the tactical side of things was rather limited.

3. Simplistic economics. I just felt more could have been done in that regard.

Not saying I hate it mind you. I just found that it was amusing, but ran out of enjoyment fairly quickly.

I LOVE the idea of a fantasy based strategy game though. I guess I was disappointed because the idea could have been so much better.

The game doesn't reach full potential until you're sitting around with about 4 buds getting drunk.

A quote from such an occasion:

Buddy: "What the f*(k are those?"

Me: uhh... fairies I think.

Buddy: Awesome! I'm gonna f(_kin' kill'em! (giddy drunken laughter while falling out of chair)

Ahh, those were the days.
