Or, yet another underrated series, the front mission games, and the shining force games were good as well. Personally, I'm a big fan of this style, but since ff tactics actually had great music, a wonderful battle system, and, surprisingly, a good albeit hard to follow story, it stands as one of my favorites.

Final Fnatasy VII is the best "modern" PSXRPG. The best one is Chrono Trigger for the SNES!
