Does anyone know whether she plans on finishing her "Clan" series?
It said at the back of the last book that she's currently writing on the next one, but that was ages ago. Is she still alive?
Thanks,

There's a lot of buzz here for her upcoming fifth book. Should be out by Mai.

Clan of the Cave Bear was good, but then the books descended into romanace novel trashiness. People who complain about the sex in GRRM's series should stay away from Auel's books.

I absolutely LOVED Clan of the Cave bear, but I have to agree with Rhaegar at least in regards to the second book in the series (I haven't read any of the others). I had no idea cave men got it on so often!! I guess that's what you do when you don't have TV, books, and anything else entertaining.

To answer your question Onions, book five of her six book series will be out on April 30, and is titled The Shelters of Stone. I don't know when the series will end, but I've read that Auel has already finished the rough draft of book six.

Like most of you said the first book was really the best. I read those book when i was about 12 and i can't remember much except that she can write good characters and dialogue. But i found it a little boring and long. But it's just what i think.

Thanks, everyone, for answering. I don't know about the first book being the best... they all had some kind of allure and I personally liked the third one a lot, because of those interesting details of camp-life.
But she does tend to repeat herself a lot, because she keeps explaining things that happened in previous books.

Good Lord... The Plains Of Passage was published in 1990, and now the next book is due for release in 2002, and a further book is planned... I hope she gets a move on before I pop me clogs! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had a hard time reading PoP, it was very very slow... I hope the next book picks up the pace a bit.
