Heloo all. I have never played an RPG, but would like to try one. However, I am, of course, not willing to *pay* for one. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif So, does anyone know of one that I can download fee-free? Thanks.

go over to Home of the Underdogs (http://www.theunderdogs.org) and look in the rpg category. (unless you're on a mac, then forget about that)

A very recommended computer rpg is Betrayal at Krondor, it's in Midkemia, in Feist's world of the Riftwar.
It's from 1994 or 1995, pretty old but still very good.
Any of the Final Fantasy games is a good option too, for anything below FF7 you'll need an SNES emulator though, but it's available for free on the web.

MajicK... there is a very good abandonware site at BH Legend (http://www.bhlegend.com/php/show.php3) (fixed). They have a host of commercial games that have been 'abondoned' by their publishing houses and are free to download. The downside is, they are quite old.

They have a large RPG section, I would recommend The Eye of the Beholder series of games, they are your classic dungeon, hack, slash and cast spell type. They also have Ultima 6, which is a very deep and involved game.

Yep.
I mean, hey!, is there any better thing to do with an hour of one's precious free time than trying to get the sound configuration for them old dos games straight, and finding the most playable slow-down setting???
My pc speaker's beep-be-be-beep owns me hard... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif
