ASoIaF- the Red Priests

These guys are making me wonder. Although Melisandre's obviously a little misguided (and a sosiopath) they seem to have some good motivations and some impressive powers to boot. I'm getting confused about the role they actually play in Martin's epic. Do you think they're good guys, or is Rh'llor another face of evil? I mean, Thoros and Lord Beric seem like good enough guys. So I put it before you: What role do you think they'll play as the story continues?
Personally, I think they're going to get out of hand and the end solution to the story will be some heroic figure (probably Daenerys) striking some balance between them and the Others. Of course that's pure speculation though.

I think the Red Priests can be good or bad, depending on the nature of the devotee.
I agree that they'll probably get out of control, and also that they'll probably be needed to help balance and destroy the Others.
GRRM seems to be indicating that they'll play a major role in the fight for Westeros...

*******SPOILER ALERT*******

Don't the priests have somewhat of a power to create theire 'own' others? Lord Beric brought back several times? Catelyn Stark? Not exactly the same...but waking dead none the less.....

They are neither evil nor good. They are dedicated in fighting the Cold. It's the classic Fire vs Ice story. Hence the name of the saga, "Song of Ice and Fire".

Yeah, well obviously it's Fire vs. Ice but try and tell me Melisandre's not a political animal and I'll call you a fool. You can't blatantly manipulate everything like that and remain neutral. I think whoever said it depends on the devotee was right.
IMO Melisandre's as evil as they come. It seems very obvious to me that the Azor Ahai reborn she's looking for is Daenerys. But she's one of these close-minded people who would rather create the truth than learn it, thus Stannis is who she figures is the one and she'd do anything to make sure that it turns out that way. I think even to the extent that if she did learn about Daenerys and how much better she fits the prophecy she'd rather try to kill Daenerys than admit she was wrong.

Gooch: Good theory, I hadn't even thought of that connection.

Just because Thoros is fighting against the Lannisters don't assume he's a good guy either. Bringing people back from the dead can never be considered good in my books.

Maybe the Others are what happen when someone has been raised too many times???

Well, although he does fight Lannisters I base my opinion of him more on the conversations he had and descriptions by the other characters of him.
