Nerili March 9th, 2006, 08:18 PM Incoming.....
Another love-bomb from an entranced fan! I was given The Naming for Christmas. I was despondent because I had just finished Ancient Evenings by Norman Mailer and just knew it would be forever before I found a book to love after finishing it.
WRONG! Your talent is not only staggering but it takes me to a place despite the dark and evil of serenity and clarity. Luckily I found The Riddle online before I finished The Naming so I was ready to go.
I came online tonight, despondent yet again, nearing its end, and not only do I learn about the release of The Crow, but find you here too!
'O Brave New World that hath such people in't!'

Hi Nerili!
I always thought that it was so cool that I could talk to the actual author of a book that I was reading!!!!
*pats computer

Silver Serpent March 16th, 2006, 02:16 PM Oh my, I'm being love-bombed! I'd love to go anywhere that people would like to see me. Unfortunately, it's not up to me, but up to the people who organise these things...
*looks up into the great above, desperately searching for the powers that be*
ah well- it was worth a go!Hi Nerili!like the name- v good!;) :D
Nerili March 16th, 2006, 02:59 PM Thank you so very much for the welcome, everyone. I was so impetuous at finding Alison that I pm'd her my post and she graciously responded almost immediately.
What a world we live in...we are drawn by the beautiful, archaic and esoteric world Alison creates with runes and mages and ancient spirits and we meet the Great Bard herself and new friends in the present-day ether of cyber-space in real time. What joy!!!!
I am very close to the end of The Riddle...I dislike wishing time away, but I am certain I will do it anxiously awaiting the release of The Crow!!!
I will have to poke around this site; surely there are book recommendations from like minds so that I may find solace there until May.:D
Silver Serpent March 16th, 2006, 03:19 PM You sound very poetic Nerili!:D wish I was..
Nerili March 17th, 2006, 10:14 AM You sound very poetic Nerili!:D wish I was..Well I can't imagine a nicer compliment, especially given the company we are in!
I must say that next to the joy I derive from singing Anglo-Catholic traditional liturgical music in a small but excellent Anglican choir, nothing gives me more joy than reveling in the rich treasure handed to us by our ancestors, our Mother Tongue.
In keeping with its being St. Patrick's Day, here is a prayer used as a beautiful hymn in the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal. Its a haunting and complex tune that switches between major and minor chords and there's not one but two themes in the music (wish there were three since the Trinity is extolled, it would provide such symmetry and symbolism, but hey, I am not complaining):
I bind unto myself today
The strong name of the Trinity
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
I bind this day to me forever,
By power of faith, Christ’s incarnation,
His baptism in the Jordan River,
His cross of death for my salvation,
His bursting from the spiced tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom,
I bind unto myself today.
I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the starlit heaven,
The glorious sun’s life giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea,
Around the old eternal rocks.
I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, his might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need,
The wisdom of my god to teach,
His hand to guide, his shield to ward,
The Word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.
I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three,
Of whom all nature has creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word.
Praise to the Lord of my salvation;
Salvation is of Christ the Lord!
Don't the bolded lyrics remind you of Pellinor?

Silver Serpent March 17th, 2006, 01:32 PM I love the deeper meanings in hyms and poetry, especialy when it's older- more matured, you can look back and think about all the different contexts in which it applys.:o ;)
