One of the reasons I loved The Gift and The Riddle was because the narrative seemed to progress so naturally. Everything happened just as it should, when it should, and even the shocks/suprises/twists seemed to just flow naturally out of the past events and onto the future ones. To me, this "natural flow" is so important in maintaining realism of plot. The Crow just didn't have this. For me it seemed to lack this "finishing touch." The narrative was interesting, creative, progressive, unique, and more, but I felt like it just wasnt quite as spontaneous as the last two books in this series. Don't get me wrong, the plot will not dissapoint anyone! I was just so aware of how much I enjoyed the natural storytelling of the last two. Perhaps it was the sheer volume of content that was packed into this one? Anyway, that tiny point on plot is my one and only critism of The Crow.

Hi Droai - what an interesting comment! (And if that's offensive - well - ) It's very difficult to maintain a perspective on one's process, but that feeling wouldn't surprise me. I had to really write The Crow, and much of it was a huge struggle. I have a couple of theories on why, but the major one is that I didn't allow myself enough time between The Riddle and The Crow for things to cook in the back of my mind. I actually think that for that reason it's better written, but the feeling of not-quite-evolving would have come from that lack of brain-time too. With any luck, I will be able to get both the better writing and the sense of evolving into The Singing - fingers crossed - though this one is going to be a challenge, with two narratives intertwining in the same book. But I do feel that this time there's been enough time between the writing of the books.

Done!!! Thank you exam breaks!! lol. . . .finshed the Crow this morning. . .Am so happy!:D

So now i must find time to re read The Riddle to pick out those links that have been bugging me. . . I dont remmeber much right now bcoz i'm cramming my mind with Russian History and Human Biology, genetics etc. . really pain stakingly boring actually.

Alison, will we get to see Hared and Hem meet up again in The Singing? I'm sorry but I can imagine Hared and Hem meeting after all the anger in Hared about Hem's escapade that it would quite amusing for some reason. lol.

I did find some parts of the book a bit of a push to read, which i think may reflect some parts you Alison, may have had trouble actually writing?? dunno? But it's alot of information to intake. Although Soron was definately my new favourite! I think he reminds me so much of Brighella from Commedia Dell Atre (Italian classical theatre), whom i play a few years ago and had so much fun with!

Tis all from me for now. . . . . as i should return to studying for exams. . .Grrr.
