Pain, I was completely enchanted with this book the first hundred pages or so. The story is just really incredible. However, once I reached the point where the book goes all postal-pomo on you, I just couldn't handle it.
Don't get me wrong, I love it when authors take chances, but one thing I require from my writers' is that they write in prose. I don't think thats too much to ask.

I think Jack got it right. There were some flashes of great stuff, but it collapsed into confusion for me.

well, i hope to start it by next week but i don't want to rush the thousandfold thought.
i have flipped through it and saw some of the odd pages that make up the second half of the book.

I loved this novel--it was very captivating, brillaint, and well-planned out. I think the main problem is that this is one of those books where if you either don't like Borges or don't "get it" you won't like it as much. EVERYTHING in that book has a purpose, as it was written over ten years and the author continued to tweak it and align certain things--so he said in an interview I recently read, and once I reread some sections I believe it.
Basically, to "get it" you have to realize that the story is about Johnny Truant for the most part, and that it is a story about nothing, or everything--it's difficult to say which.
I suggest to those who have already read it and had problems look it up on Wikipedia and read the entry on it, plus some of their links, as it is very illuminating because it corelates everything that the human brain has trouble keeping track of.

i am about 1/2 way through the book and i really like it. i'm not sure if i understand the full intention and complexities of the novel but i like the story and the unusual way it's presented.

I've been trying to get into this book for years, but somewhat it hasn't come together for me yet.

I'm all about House of Leaves -- I adore it. I can understand how people might have issues getting into it, however. It's complex, and the structure is unlike anything that has come before.
