Finding it hard to find books... (particularly Matt Stover)

Bit of a long shot here but is anyone here from the North West of England (Manchester?)

I've been trying to find quite a few older Forgotten Realms books (since WotC bought the franchise they've been impossible to get hold of!!..)

And more importantly, the Matt Stover stuff that people keep raving about.. I've asked in Waterstones and they say that its no longer in production. Damn, damn and damn again!!..

Any ideas?.. (im not a huge fan of buying stuff over the 'net, but will if there is no other choice)

Thanks in advance!
PK

I am not from anywhere in England, but being the Dragon Lance adict that I am I can relate to what you are talking of. Many of the books that I would love to get a hold of are not available since Wizards bought the TSR franchise. The best thing that I can recommend that you do is to pay a visit to these two web sites, they often can get you copies of books that you can not obtain yourself. Frequently, they can do so at a significantly reduced cost.

Hi vexed http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Have you tried Paramount books ? I lived in Manchester for 4 years when i was Uni and Paramount always had a great fantasy selection with some rarities.. mostly 2ndhand btw.. it's on Shude Hill.. also.. dunno if it'd still be there but there was another good one little frequented on the opposite side of the road just up slightly.. i think they were more popular for their porn but also had some good fantasy. Failing that there were a few good little shops along the street side of the Corn Exchange.. good luck http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Kaseryn,
I did indeed try the Paramount Book store.. I love it in there http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif.. in fact I just dropped off about 30 books in there (got rid of the dross.. now back to my 'pure' collection)

They've just rebuilt the corn exchange after the bomb blast in '95, nothing like it used to be http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif.. thanks for the suggestions though!.. might stick my head back in @ Paramount and see if they can order something for me.

Yep, remember it well m8.. i was there at the time.. actually at a friends flat in India House when it went off.. bowed all the windows in with the shockwave.. madness. Shame abt the corn exchange .. that used to be such a cool place. Remember that little fantasy shop had retro toys and old sci fi mags trading cards and everything ? Picked up a pristine copy of Urshurak in there (gorgeous Hildebrandt artwork). As for Paramount they rule too i saw a copy of the Dune Encylcopaedia in there once but it was gone by the time i came back with some dosh.. andyway keep looking and good luck http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

There's always www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com) for books, they have Heroes Die & Blade of Tyshalle. His two earlier books Jericho Moon and Iron Dawn I think are out of print.

Vexed: Waterstones still exists? I used to visit their sole store here in Boston, but it closed down years ago. Replacing it were the two corporations of illiteracy: Barnes and Nobles and Borders.

Qin: Waterstones do indeed still exist!.. they are usually my bookstore of choice.. the fantasy sections seem to suck in general but the one in Manchester is amongst the best I've seen.. much larger than any other corporate bookstores I've seen, and the booksignings are incredible..

Not sure if the Authors visit all Waterstones stores or not, but off the top of my head I think we've had Pratchett, Salvatore, Eddings and any number of other authors in here. Great stuff.

Just wanted to say thanx for the suggestions everyone.. now happily ordered via Amazon, now to go back to reading 'The Tawny Man' (not sure if I shoulda read Liveships first though.. *shrug*)

/me whimpers. I'm stuck with endless Barnes and Nobles and Borders bookstores here in Boston. And there's not a single good book in sight at any of them.
