When I will be published http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I would very much like to have a cover done by Mike Mignola (SF/F) or Bill Sienciewicz (SF). They are not your regular coverartists, tho both have done a lot of covers in the comic book field.
Of the more traditional choices, I'd love to have my fantasy-books graced with covers by Jeffrey Jones and my fabulous SF http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif with a cover done by the one and only Richard M. Powers!

SF novel - Jim Burns, Chris Foss, Chris Moore, Fred Gambino (and if I can bring back Chesley Bonestell and Peter Elson...!);

Fantasy novel: John Howe, Jim Burns (again!), Alan Lee, Ted Nasmith.

Though I like Michael Whelan and respect his art enormously I find that for every piece of his 'wow' work I find an 'erm...OK' piece of work.

Isn't that the thing about art though? Some love, others hate.....

I'd love to steal a couple of White Wolf's better artists for such a project. Michael Whelan, the dude who did the Shadow War covers, myself, it's all good.

Well, since the fantasy series I'm working on writing now, (which is "The Atarchus Chronicles") is a dark fantasy series about vampires, demons, and the undead, I'd probably need an artist who can draw vampires and demons real well to do the cover. I'd probably choose that guy who did the covers for the "Ravenloft" novels. I don't know what his name is though.

Dave Mckean. He's most famous for his work with Niel Gaiman (he did all of the covers for the sandman graphic novels). His artwork is a tad dark, but his sense of design is amazing.

First Choice still Larry Elmore.
Then Ciruelo (www.dac-editions.com - the dude that made the Shadow War covers), Stephanie Pui-Mun Law (www.shadowscapes.com - I know her from Elfwood) or maybe even Claudio Pozas (www.d20reviews.com/pozas/index.html).
The letter two are unusual but very good.

I hate to just join in with the others .. but yeah Whelan .. I still catch myself looking at his covers and wishing I owned prints. The other artist I'd want working on my books would be Michael Turner .. his comics blow me away.
