Is anyone just worn out on Jordan WOT?

I'm sure this has been covered on this board, but I hit the WOT running - just eating up those books - getting the most enjoyment out of The Fires of Heaven. Then, I started wanting it to end. I hit a low point with Crown of Swords (I thought I was so lucky to find it in hardback in the bargain bin at Borders for something like 5 bucks!). Winters Heart was a great installment, but geeze, I'm just gettin' worn out here. I want Rand to grab his buddies, hit a very adventuresome trail, and fulfill the dang prophecy already.

I have to say yes... I am worn out... but I will read them, I have invested too much time and money to leave it now.

As you can see from the above responses, this is a very old argument... some are still reading WOT with the same passion as book one... others are just waiting to be put out of their (and Jordan's) misery. The general view is however... to slug it out until the end.

Both views have no right or wrong.

I've just finished the last book and must say that.. although its been a little slow in parts.. i've enjoyed it all and look forward to as many more as he wants to write.. since there's soooo much more scope. We havent done anything in Seanchan yet and theres the mystery of the Finns.. lots of room to roam... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I've felt that Jordan has been drawing things out for a long time. For me, the series peaked with book four. It has yet to reach that level again. Some of the later installments were better than others, but my overall feeling is that it's getting a little old. It feels like he's sub-plotting the story into the ground, and for the most part, his side characters don't really interest me.

I really like his three main characters, and have grown attached enough that I will continue reading the series until it's finish. But I'm not enjoying the books enough that I want to read book after book of not entirely necessary sub-plots. In many ways, it feels like Jordan is doing nothing more than spreading the story thin. Because in the end, I would rather have less books of higher quality (or in this case, conciseness) than more books of lower.

If I'm honest here, I want to like Jordan's later books more. I'd like to share, for example, JohnH's enjoyment. I think Rand, Perrin, and Mat are some truly fantastic characters, some of my favorites, and the central plot is very absorbing, but not enough of "the rest" really grabs me. So in answer to the thread's question: Yeah. I am a little worn out.

The only thing that makes me more weary than WOT are all the damned "new" topics on WOT and Jordan.
