Hey, anyone here into anime or manga? If so, what are your faves? I love Yu Yu Hakusho, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Weiss Kreuz, Gundam Wing, Iria, Battle Angel Alita, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc, etc, etc...

You left out akira. No-one can call themselves an anime fan and not like Akira.

I must say that i think Akira is overhyped.
The bottom line is that it's just a story about some kids with cool mental powers.

Excuse me? Who are you to say whether I'm an anime fan or not? I've seen Akira. It was good, and I liked it, but I can't say it's really one of my favorites. And I'd have to agree with the opinion that Akira is a bit overrated. Pardon me for having different tastes from you. And don't conclude that I'm only into all that shoujo stuff. It's just that I'd prefer Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop to Akira anyway.

Heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyy!!!
Don't soil yourself. I didn't mean to offend. Akira is a classic, it's the Lord of the rings of Anime.
You say Akira is overhyped and you're probably right. Just like LOTR is overhyped in fantasy. Just like Star wars is overhyped in sci fi movies. Just like the alfred hitchcock movies are overhyped. Does this make them bad...no.
I've seen alot of Anime for an english speaking person and all i'm saying is it's storyline is superior in originality and subtlety than any of the others i've seen.
I don't even know why i'm explaining this to you, you said it in your own words "It was good, and I liked it". My statement was "No-one can call themselves an anime fan and not like Akira." But you said yourself that you do like it so....argument over.

BTW, Did you get the name Saeru from the RPG Legend of Legaire?

Okay, sorry that I took that comment personal, but I tend to do that a lot. You said you've seen a lot of anime? That's cool. I guess I've seen quite a few, but not really since it's hard to get any anime here way down south, esp. w/ parents who think it's a total waste of time and money. Apart from movies, what series do you like?
But anywayz, noo, I didn't get the name Saeru from Legend of Legaire; I kinda made it up ^^;

What about Ninja Scroll?

Lots of good stuff mentioned in here. I gotta say though, Macross Plus was damn sweet! Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, it's all good. You guys see X? Lots of good deaths in that movie.

I've always liked Akira, it was the first Japanese animation I'd seen since I used to watch Robotech as a kid. As much as I like the movie Akira (which I don't feel is overrated, don't get me started) the comics are SO MUCH BETTER! A lot of people who didn't like the movie would probably find themselves much more satisfied with this masterpiece of modern storytelling.

Who's seen Blood: The Last Vampire? Man, I'm watching this thing for half an hour going, "Oh man, this is gonna be the coolest damn show EVER!... and then it ends." Much swearing followed. Amazing animation, cool take on the overdone vampire theme, this project could have been a masterpiece. Why would you start something that good and not make it full length?
This guy sitting next to me has the nastiest damn breath so I gotta go or I'm gonna die.
