among my favourites there are Michael Whelan, Julie Bell, Jonathon Bowser, but my favourite is
BORIS VALLEJO.
He's the only one who really captures spirit of fantasy, he's the only one, that truly catches your breath, when you look at his works. I admire his imagination!

I'm stuck with Chinese graphics artists who think vertically, the way they read. But if I had a choice, it would be Salvador Dali, hands down. Take a second look at "Swans Reflecting Elephants" or "The Persistence of Memory" to see what I mean.

I know this picture Nokken (http://www.cs.uit.no/~espensk/kittelsen/nokken.jpg) by Theodor Kittelsen isnt exactly fantasy art, but it always make me "daydream". Other pics etc : Kittelsen (http://www.cs.uit.no/~espensk/kittelsen/index-2.0.html)

Wow, this is a big list, but there are so many great fantasy artists.

Of course, Royo, Vallejo, and Frazetta are toward the top. Also, Azpiri, Bolton, Cleavenger, Hoffman, Whealen, and Ken Kelly have some great pieces. Corben, Bisley, and Hoffman are better known for comics, but have some great fantasy paintings as well. Olivia, Dave Stevens, and Jim Silke are great pinup type artists - which is fantasy all to its own http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
